Oppo is now a Japanese whisky blog!
I got this from Spec’s today. They didn’t have the Hibiki stuff, but this is from the same distillery. At less than half the price, it’s obviously not as good, but I highly doubt there’s a better whisky out there for $30.

i like japanese beer.... but i stay away from japanese whiskey... (not because its bad.... but because i drink it like japanese beer.... wich is to say like water.... but with japanese beer i get away with that... with whiskey.... ahahahahaha.... )

i should probably add... that japanes beer isnt like water... i just drink it that way (or maybe i didnt need too.... i dunno anymore)

Toki was indeed very, very light. But Hibiki and Yamazaki in the older age statements are much more flavourful.
Not my cup of tea since I like peaty stuff, but definitely not all Japanese whiskies taste like water.

oh i wasnt trying to say they taste like water mate... just that i drink em that way... wich is to say... i quaff em back and keep on quaffing... till i pass out (if im lucky.....otherwise i black out... and thats bad )

You need more than just a toki. You need a hibiki, a Yamasaki. And add a balvenie 14 year Caribbean cask for good measure.

I’m not sure, it’s much lighter than regular whiskey. I don’t really know how to describe the taste either. The Hibiki stuff my Uncle had, had a little bit of a scotch taste to it, but that was a blend. This isn’t.

I quite like Sapporo, and Asahi is drinkable.
I hear Hitachino from the Kiuchi brewery is nice but some are craft beer like.
I’ll have to give them a try.

The blend, somewhat. This I’m not sure. I wouldn’t say it’s like scotch, but I’ve never had Irish whiskey so idk if that’s the same as scotch or no.

So I don’t know anything about Japanese whiskey, but my brother does. He is college buds with the heir to the Suntory beverage empire. He flew to Japan to be in the guy’s wedding party. He says this is good stuff.
