My uncle is LS-swapping an ‘86 300ZX and tuning it to the max and doing everything a responsible gearhead should do—give it to his 12 year old son. And then there’s me, his cousin, his jealous cousin, that wants to accept a challenge that was never said until I said it: I’ll get a car from the same era, swap and tune something fast into it, and race him. And my idea? Well.....
I wanna get an ‘88-’92 Supra and 2JZ-GTE swap it. Then serve his ass hard in that race. Good idea? Any other suggestions?
EDIT: The suggestions have to be a reasonable competitor to an LS-swapped 300ZX.

I’m gonna assume youre in the US....? (or Canada?) Arent those MK3's getting rarer and rarer by the day? Also, a donor 2jz does not seem to be the easiest thing to find either. Then again, this is coming from a guy that lives in Europe, so Im just wildly speculating here.....(basing my conclusions regarding the mk4 engines on the latest mk4 prices.....pretty much everywhere, lol)....

Don’t worry, Mk3s are cheap and abundant where I live and I’ve found numerous 2JZs and R154 trannys for cheap too. But the Mk4 body is crazy expensive, even the nonturbos so it would be a lot cheaper to swap in and tune the 2JZ in the Mk3 body.

MK3s are getting rarer, in the sense that fewer and fewer are on the road, but very few end up in junkyards because owners often just hold onto them. I’m looking for one myself. There’s even a broken one sitting in a backyard a few blocks away from me but the owner won’t part with it.

LS Miata. Believe me, nothing will bring you more joy, than seeing the look on your friends face when he has to come to terms with the fact that his swapped car was just demolished by a Miata. Bonus points if you do it with the headlights up.
Relatively easy swap with tons of documentation. Cheap doner car, cheap engine. For maximum savagery, leave things looking as stock as possible. Maybe even add headlight eyelashes.

They are really heavy cars. 2Jz also has its own weaknesses as well. You can really get the Mk3 for a song though.
For a drag race though it should be more than adequate, you will probably want to swap out to some a little more than the stock twins will push. Your transmission options are also going to be on the brutal side unless you stick with the automatic which may be a weakness itself.
