You’re giving too much credit to people’s brains.

Not their brains, but their brains AND their ability to use it.

Still giving people too much faith. Assume the average car owner has the intelligence of an amoeba and go from there.

On the way to work last week, I witnessed a brodozer blocking two lanes of traffic because it could not get up an icy underpass of about a 4% grade. All four tires were spinning and it was squirreling left and right. That 6" lift and chrome rimz didn’t help much. There were many angry subaru drivers behind it.

Was going to put this in a separate post but maybe people stopping here can help.

What all season tires should I get for my 06 Taco Sport?

I know I should get winters but money is a factor and I need new tires soon anyways. Live in NH, but I’ve been doing fine with all seasons for the last 8 years and if it’s snowy or icy I just work from home.

Just now (10 minutes ago while I was driving) the car in front of me turning into the grocery store booped the snow bank. I chuckled and kept driving. It looked like they managed to back out under their own power.

Where would Brain + Winter Tires + Questionable TCS fall? 3.5? Not bad...

With LT tires this is relatively easy since you can get AT tires with the mountain snowflake. I have Hankook dynapro ATM on my gx and they are snowflake rated, quiet and cheap. You could also look at falken AT3w, Wrangler duratracs or BFG Ko2

For truck/SUV all-seasons primarily for on-road use:

If you can afford them, it’s hard to beat the Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenza Plus.

Below that the Pirelli Scorpion Verde All-Season Plus is quite good.

Below that, I’d probably recommend the Yokohama Geolandar G055, which is just above the Firestone Destination LE2.

Below that, probably a toss up with the Sumitomo Encounter HT, Kumho Crugen HT, General Grabber HTS, and the Hankook Dynapro.

Try to get the Alenzas, though. Good tires make one hell of a difference for so many things.

I’d rather have a brain and all season tires, than no brain and winter tires.

I’m digging my new General Altimax Arctics.

Proposed addendum: If you are in an area that seldom gets snow and ice and you get some, top of the list should be STAY HOME. Because if your presence on dicey roads isn’t essential to someone’s survival, you’re just part of the problem. Atlanta, I’m looking at you.
