When the stinger was being rolled out I said to myself “this is the off lease sport sedan I want for my family in a few years once it’s depreciated.” But as details emerge, it looks like the G70 will be the car that really beckons. Things I like about the G70:
- shorter wheelbase and length; almost compact by modern standards at 184 inches
- latest rumors are still that the U.S. will get a manual transmission (though I suspect if it happens the same will happen for the stinger)
- I find it slightly more striking
What it lacks compared to the stinger:
- a lift back
It’ll be interesting to see pricing between the two cars once released and which suffers worse depreciation. I think the stinger will have broader appeal but if the g70 gets a manual I get the sense it could get a cult following.

I think thr G70 is better looking up front but the stinger takes the cake elsewhere.
If you want a sport sedan I’d go for the G70 because of the shorter wheel base and lower curb weight. We haven’t received our stinger but the internet does claim its portly

The G70 name just makes me imagine a G35 with a 7.0 AMG V12 swapped in somehow.

You may be right that the stinger wins everywhere but up front in looks. Stinger is handsome but G70s grille just looks a bit better.

At least when it comes to the interior, I really like the G70 over the Stinger but Damn do I love that Liftback/Sportback on the Stinger

The G70 definitely looks better than that ventilated lump they call the Stinger, but I still can’t help but see echoes of other cars in the class, like the Giulia and Q60.

i understand the lower curb weight part, but not clear why a shorter wheelbase has higher desirability to you..... what advantages does this convey in your eyes?

Shorter wheelbase means a car more eager to change directions, longer wheelbase is generally associated with highway stability and smoother cornering.

As far as I know it makes you more stable but it also makes the car a bit slower to respond for the same reason that there’s more distance between the wheels and it plants the car better.
Its harder to begin rotation on a car with a longer wheelbase than a car in a short wheelbase, that’s why shorter wheelbases are associated with sportier cars because direction can be easily changed rather than smoothly maintained.

I think the stinger’s interior is more distinct. But then again, I sat on one of the dealer’s car and some of the quality wasn’t up to germanic standards.

As far as I understand is the same that with snowboards; If you have a short board it is slower but its more playful; easier to jump and stunt with. A longer board is much more stable and easier to use faster but its kinda daft in its movements.
I’m not an autocrosser, I’m someone that gets on the ring road and sets the cruise control on 80km/h days on end. Thus, I’m happy with the Stinger, but it must be recognized that the g70 is likely to be a better sports sedan, not a better tourer and definitely too small for a family like mine whose average height is 180cm.
And yes, I do take longer boards when I snowboard.
