My mom scored an insane deal on plane tickets to Ireland next summer, so we’re going! What are some cool car things to do there? Anything else you recommend? As of now, I only know that my dad wants to do a tour at Guinness (his favorite beer) and my mom is interested in more historical things. I’ll probably be in the area in time for the end of the Isle of Man TT, but I don’t think we’ll be able to see any of it. Other than that and Mondello Park, (nothing but a single track day in June) I don’t think I’ve even heard of anything motorsport-related around there.

Tour the old Jameson distillery, too. I think I enjoyed that more than the Guinness tour. And if they ask for volunteers at the beginning, you definitely want to volunteer - it’s for a taste test at the end.

Beyond that, there’s so much to see and do in that beautiful country, I don’t know where to start.

Dublin has a church called St. Michilans or similar which has a crypt. In said crypt are preserved mummies from the Crusades. It is amazing and like 3 euro. Creepy as all hell. Well worth it. I’ve been twice.

Jameson distillery in Dublin is meh...skip the viking museum in Dublin. Guinness is excellent. See both Cathedrials.

Drink Beamish and Potin

If your going to the Guinness distillery, also check out the Teeling whiskey distillery nearby.

Driving around Ireland was a pretty thrilling automotive experience for me.

There was a small racetrack I went to but the name eludes me at the moment.

I don’t think it was there in 2007. I’ll have to make another trip.

I was just there in July on my honeymoon. If you want a beautiful drive, Dublin to Glendalough and make sure the route you take goes through Sally Gap. It’s beyond gorgeous. It looks like you stay on R115 to do the same drive we took, it goes Wicklow Mountains National Park. The drive was way prettier to us than Glendalough itself but if you enjoy hiking then maybe you can enjoy both. Also if you want an amazing castle tour go to Ross Castle. Also the Muckross house is amazing. Muckross Abbey is amazing. Also check out Blarney. The castle is okay (Ross was way cooler and way more informative)  but the castle grounds are incredible! A must go shopping place is Standun in Spiddal. It was amazing and at the time had free shipping of whatever you bought there back to the US. Also there is a card you can get that lets you not pay taxes on stuff there. If you’re interested in hotel recommendations I have those too. It was so much fun there, we can’t wait to go back!

Also in Dublin, check out The Clockwork Door. It’s this amazing place where you can just kill time. You literally pay by the minute, I believe it was like 7 cents a minute but there are so many wondrous things to do there. It is amazing!

Dublin:
The Guinness Storehouse tour is alright, but too professional/commercial imo. You’ll have the opportunity to draught your own Guinness at the end of the tour.
The Irish Whiskey Museum is fun, it’s not only about the distilling process, but also tackles a bit of history and the societal role of whiskey. And you can do a tasting afterwards, of course.
Check out Arthur’s Pub near the Guinness Storehouse, they’ve got great food and an open fireplace.
Your mom will probably love Trinity College.
For a drink at night you’ve got Temple Bar and Camden Mile, with the former being more touristy.

Rest of Ireland:
No clue, but I’ll be following this thread closely as I’m planning an Irish roadtrip in June.

The shipyard in Belfast where the Titanic was launched is cool to see. Apparently there’s a whole museum that’s been built there about the titanic since I was there in 2009. The peace walls in Belfast are a bit surreal. All the usual touristy stuff is cool: Giant’s Causeway, Cliffs of Moher, castles, so many castles. The whole Connemara region is gorgeous. Galway is interesting, Dublin is fun. I want to go to Ireland again.
