Kinja'd!!!

JDM MK4 Supras will *not* go up in price when they become importable next year, mostly because they’re already hilariously expensive.

I think I’ll ask Santa for an Imperial Jade Supra Turbo next Christmas. Am I doing this right?

It’s only slightly more realistic than me getting a German girlfriend who doesn’t have commitment issues.

Honestly, the USDM ones may actually drop in price a little. The people who buy these are the type that would sell a USDM car for an identical (but with impractical RHD!) JDM car.

This actually might the the lone exception to the “JDM is always better” thought. From what I’ve read, the JDM turbo models made less power than the export ones.

Another thought: Facelifted SC400 prices will continue to rises to the level of 20-year old 4x4 Tacomas.

I’m going to import a non-turbo automatic

You could get a manual MK3 R for the same price!

I can’t comprehend why anyone would but an imported RHD version of a car we already have in he US. Like a Skyline, Mark II, or a Suzuki Cappuccino I get, because the only way to have one is to have a RHD one. Butwith an S chassis, FD, or Supra you can get a left hand drive US market version so why deal with the problems that come with driving on the other side of the car.

I think that was just on paper, because the Japanese government wouldn’t let them sell a car with over 280hp so they just lied.

For the most part I agree, but the JDM cars are often better taken care of. Plus with the FD, there were just so many more of them over there. I could see the ratio of JDM FDs to USDM ones in the country being 1:1 by 2030.

There are a few differences actually. The JDM model also has smaller turbos

The FS was a bad example mostly because they sold them for what 7 more years in japan? I could put up with RHD for a later model Spirit R

Nope. Prices will continue to go up.

I predict that an MK4 Turbo / manual w/ zero mods will go for $100k by 2030. People that were 16 when the first F&F movie came out will be just about finishing up paying off their student loans by then, and have some cash to burn.

Yeah. Even the MK4 had 4 extra years there. One big surprise for me is that 1JZ MK3 Supras are, for the most part, hovering in the low-mid teens or even high 4-figures even though they’ve all hit 25. The only exception is the R model in green, which was seemingly a very limited exclusive color.

I’m sorry, but I think everyone who wants to do a Toyota mill with a manual already fought over the W58 transmissions—you’re looking at spending a stupid amount of money for one of the few ones still floating around, I bet.

I had that transmission in mind when I was drooling over the thought of putting a 1UZ in my Corolla with an adapter plate for the W58. Between that, and the scarcity of the 7.5" Celica-Supra rear-end (‘79-’81, I think?), I realized it was a pipe dream for me.

In the case of the Supra, they’re about half the price.

I predict that nice sc400s will continue to rise in value while the beat examples will stay where they are(sub-$2000)

Yeah, I’m aware W58 supplies are dwindling. Speaking of, I found a local-ish manual MK3 Supra with a blown engine. I’m going to try to go look at it.
