It’s not the importing part that’s illegal, it’s the driving it on public roads. You can import whatever you want as long as you keep it off roads.

You should import one :) They aren’t especially rare, just not cheap, and have maintenance and running costs to rival 12 cylinder Germans.
IIRC, the early cars are more likely to have touchscreen and GPS (maybe the first GPS in a production car, as I think earlier nav systems simply calculated speed and time on a map rather than using a tracker).

You can import whatever you want as long as you keep it off roads.
That really is not how the 25-year import restriction law works in the US.
Cars under 25 years old can be imported to be used strictly in racing, but need to be re-exported in a certain period of time.

The text of that bill mentions members of armed forces of a
foreign country
on assignment in the US. Essentially it grants the same rights to foreign military in the US as foreign diplomats in the US. Diplomats have always been able to bring their foreign cars with them, but they restriction is that they must re-export them or destroy them once their time in the US is up.
So far as I’m aware, no special import rights have ever been granted US military members returning from overseas. The military might help a person with the logistics of transporting their foreign car back with them, but it still needs to be legal for import under the same rules as any other US citizen.

Essentially, the car must be built originally as strictly a race car to be imported permanently. If it is a road car to be used for strictly track use, then it can be temporarily imported only.

Foreign military on assignment in the US can bring their vehicles with them temporarily; they must export the car when they leave (or destroy it).
US military returning to the US are granted no special exclusions to import rules that I’ve ever heard of. They can bring a car back with them, but it has to be legal to import under the same rules as any other US citizen.

The first time I saw one of these was about 5 years ago at a Maccas. It was a modern car that I couldn’t pick the country of, let alone the make. I was shocked.
Such a great car. Of course I’ve never seen one on the roads since, but I see them at car shows every so often.
