Turns out this take a lot more time and effort, and for that matter skill and equipment then I thought. I had some shots in mind I wanted to take, some didn’t work out, and others were just dropped because of how cold it was. I have an hour of gopro footage, but with it being so cold driving fast meant freezing so not much was exciting.

Trimmed some of it down, managed to put together a little < 3 min video.

I tried to use my slider way too much for sure, a friend who was there helped me frame and grab some shots, so anything that looks good credit to him. We did talk about getting some driving shots some time as well.

Edit - Sent the video to the friend who helped me shoot and is way better at this.

He said I could post it for comparison, the quality took a dump being uploaded from my phone, but kinda neat how different it is.

Not bad for a first try, I haven’t tried to do much in the way of film yet but just from watching it, my uneducated guess would be more stationary shots that are visually perfect rather than moving shots that aren’t perfectly smooth. One thing that I ran into when trying to do stylish filming with the cellphone cameras, and digital cameras that I have is auto focus screwing up moving shots, I noticed that kind of messed with several of your really good shots there. However it worked pretty well on the chain-link fence shot. Keep it up, I wish I had the ability to film cool cars. On a side note, that cars got some giddy-up and go. Does it have a wheel well page?

Your first try is better than all of my YouTube videos combined. I loved it! :)

Well done. I think that would be the perfect lead up to a spirited drive with a Mic on the exhaust and a camera on the door(to see the front wheel). Maybe with a shot from the roof looking back aswell.

Tips:

1) Don’t use software stabilization if you can help it.

1.5) Auto-focus sucks.

2) 30-seconds before the car was driving was too long.

3) Most shots could be 2-3 seconds shorter (both for interest and to cover wiggles at the ends of slides).

4) B+W seemed out of place: artsy for artsy sake

5) Not enough driving shots. No driving exteriors. (Maybe there were and I forgot them already.)

6) That onramp is .5 miles from our studio. Lol.

7) No story. No information. Montage doesn’t really work unless its gorgeous.

1. No software stabilization used. Anything that jumps out as though it is?

1.5. It does, we tried to use it for the pull focus shots. Sometimes it would go off on its own though.

2. Agreed, thought continuity was important, but struggled with getting my seatbelt on -_-

3. I agree, I tried to match to the music, but the song itself was very repetative.

4. Agreed, saw it done once, wanted to try it for myself. The white balance was a bit too good, and my program didn’t have a very good filter to darken the whole thing.

5. Your right, that does take quite a bit of setup, the parking structure also had massive speed bumps that were really not that great to drive through so the space for driving shots was really limited, and it was really cold :P

6. Oh, fellow eastsider?

7. Agreed, I definitely have a new appreciation for how people put these together.

Appreciate the tips, maybe in the summer we’ll get more of our ducks in a row.

I do like that angle for sure, I just got a new session 5 and wasn’t quite willing to leave it outside especially when attached to my satin paint. Once I figure out a good anchor system I would like to explore some outside shots. I even have a long mic to reach the exhaust with a windsock when the time comes!

I agree completely. And thank you for the encouragement.

I did make one, but they had this weird update where they made you put the reason and a review for each part that was on the car so I gave up on updating it as it was taking way too long.
