That the 2018 Odyssey is wider than it looks:

Kinja'd!!!

I was watching the passenger mirror to make sure I had room to squeeze in the door when I heard the driver mirror hit the edge of the door. Brick gouged through the clear coat but doesn’t seem to have messed up the undercoat.

I have a similar tale with an ATV.

Was out plowing out the mailbox, thought I was clear, clipped the mailbox with the cargo box on the back. Nothing a pair of pliers couldn’t fix on the mailbox.

My wife’s old Altima was the same way - kinda bloaty plus pointy mirrors stuck out father than you would expect. The wife didn’t really need lectures from me so I just kept buffing the scratches out and honestly it looked fine.

I had no substantial door dings in 3 cars for almost 15 years.

Then we bought an Odyssey. Not only have I scraped the mirrors down to the basecoat (no power folding mirrors in a $35k van? Even when Kia offers it in their $22k competitor?), we also have 5+ other substantial dings — mostly anonymous offenders in parking lots. Some of that is due to Honda sourcing its sheet metal from Reynolds heavy duty aluminum foil, but most of it is because cars just shouldn’t be a certain size.

This is the car that the airlines politely force to buy a second seat but the van has 50,000 Twitter followers and a shitstorm ensues.

Honda can do no wrong!!!

Just yesterday I watched one of these do a five point turn to leave a parking spot. Large, and probably newly acquired.

At least you have resale value on your side.

It’s definitely wider than its predecessor. It feels as wide as a Tahoe or Expedition.

2018 Honda Odyssey/Dimensions:

203 L x 79 W x 68-70 H

1998 Dodge Ram (full-size) Van/ Dimensions:

205” L x 79” W x 81” H

And half of that extra height comes from being a body-on-frame truck-based van

I’m so glad I’m not alone. They’re actually way more stressful than I expected to drive around these dealer lots. I fold the mirrors in on almost every one now before parking it. I’m glad they fold up and in

Yes. Yes it is. We got ours in October. My wife ran the passenger rear quarter panel into the garage door surround by the first part of December. 6” scratch down to primer. No dent though

I feel your pain.

We measured for length and height, but not width. It is a good bit wider than the Evo it replaced.

Have you played with lane departure and active cruise? Look ma! No hands!

This one is at work. It’s an EX getting leather seats. The boss will probably fuss about it but since it didn’t get the basecoat it should be cheap to buff and reseal it with clear coat.

We had to order an EX because we didn’t want leather and all the entertainment crap. Kind of blows my mind that someone would pay extra to add leather back in.

Eesh. An Odyssey replaced an Evo? I shed a tear for you, sir.

It hurts, but sometimes you have to say “yes, honey”. We still have the Evo and I bought a 1990 Mini and imported it from Japan about the same time we bought the van. Balance in the Force and all that.
