What happens to a tiny rock chip when you rebuild a transmission?

Kinja'd!!!

It snakes across the entire windshield from the power tools vibrating the truck. I might see if my boss can get the shop to replace the windshield for us, but this is the only truck with cruise control and I really don’t want it out of commission anymore.

I was driving through Nevada this summer on a fairly empty road. Birds eating road kill here and there. One bird didn’t get out of the way in time and hit the windshield. At first, I thought it only left some poop. Few miles later, the poop turned to crack and started snaking its way around the windshield.

Before I knew it, the crack got large and sun reflecting off random bends in the crack made it super hard to see where I was going. even with sun shades on.

In your case, you’re driving a truck of some sort. If you happened to be blinded by the crack and hit a crate full of puppies, you would be sad. And then internet would find out. And the internet would be sad... and before you know it, everyone on the internet will not like you for hurting puppies because cruise control was more important than a crack in the windshield.

As for my story... it was a rental and we were returning the car the next morning.

This is a very good point. I’ll give it the rest of the week and see about having it fixed over the weekend.

Ouch. thankfully our insurance would pay for that with no harm to our no claims and can be replaced at home, work or their place the same day.

Hello fellow cruise control enthusiast.

excellent plan. Being the holidays and such, you might not be able to get a new windshield till after this week anyway.

Have a happy new year, pal.

Probably just the cold and heat cycles that did it. Same thing happened to my last car. Small chip, I “fixed” it with the over the counter loctite stuff and it was fine for the rest of the spring/summer. But the first cold day in the fall and it shot across the windshield.

Now I get those chips addressed professionally ASAP. Our new Pacifica with 20k miles has already had three chips repaired.

But it doesn’t take much stress, or body flex to send a chip into a big crack, so it could’ve just been from hoisting the vehicle too.

New glass is so nice though. You never realize how bad the little pits and scratches are until you get a replacement installed.

I take it no one’s there on the weekend? The best thing about managing a fleet for a company that’s open 24/7 is that most of my vehicles are idle on the weekend and I can have the windshield guys come to us.

Windshields are quick, 30 min job no real downtime afterward just have to drive around with tap on the seams.
