man I love a 61 Impala SS, they are superb riding cars. My grandpa had one when I was growing up and sold it just after I got my license, only got to drive it once and I was hooked.

Nice! The 61 was always my favorite Chevy, and an SS would be fantastic. Love the unique emblems on that car. Haven’t driven a 61 yet though.

yeah the uniqueness of the 61 SS is cool and rare only 450ish built in 61. They are not as heavy as they look, my grandpas had a 327 in it when he first got the car and that thing was surprisingly quick, eventually we put the correct 348 tri power motor in it. car was a factory 4 speed as well.

Yeah, they’re not heavy. I’ve driven a 62, and they’re large but light - typical of early 60s cars.

And yeah a W motor is what belongs there - 348 Tri power is a nice choice.

well the car was a factory big block car, there are little hints that indicate that, mainly the gas line is the big one. A factory w motor car has a bigger fuel line and its routed behind the passenger a arm, a 283 or I6 car is routed on top. We couldn’t put a definite stamp ours was a true SS car but on the dash where the grab bar was added there was no filled holes where the cross flags on a non SS car had

I had a relaxing day. The running starts tomorrow when the daughter and I fly north to see family.

I think it’s nearly impossible to determine if a car was a true factory SS, and I’ve read that a lot of cars had the package dealer installed too. If you have the required options and the right holes in the dash for the grab bar, that’s about as solid as you can get.

Dress warm! I’m sure Indy is warmer than Chicago but it’s single digits here.

Indy usually tracks mostly with Chicago, but with a little less of the lake piling on. My daughter is looking forward to snow, and I am packing layers. If I need, I’ll just steal my dad’s sweaters.

Maybe I’ll find an Integra up there because the one I found here got bought out from under me.

Aww, too bad. Maybe you can find one in Indy, but those are rare up here, unless they’re thrashed. Definitely sweater weather here. Safe travels-

You know, if it’s a factory big block SS, there’s a decent chance the original motor was NOT a 348...

only 142 409 cars built in 61, it was probably the low horsepower 348, the one we put in was the top dog 350hp 348.

Sadly no way to know, but I like that engine choice. Sweet car!
