Secondly,

White Christmas in Washington!

Thirdly, I took that photo with a phone. Why exactly have I spent so much on cameras and lenses over the years? Fake shallow DOF is kind of like the fake engine noises of the photography world. You only hate it when you know it’s fake.

Phones do a really good job these days. I don’t understand my friends who use DSLRs for birthday parties. The only problem is still in poor lighting.

For real photography nothing beats film and a good lens. But for candid everyday stuff, phones are a godsend

My old iPhone 4 serves as an alarm clock and music server.

I’ve heard that post processing (aka Photoshop) does even more. I’m not much good with it beyond adding a filter, but I’ve seen some of the stuff that can be done, and it’s pretty impressive.

honestly phones seem to be more than capable nowadays.... i just cant sell meself on getting one (smart phone that is..) i dont like touch screens... and i have a perfectly good computer at home for interwebs and gaming.... and if im not at home.. odds are im in traffic .. or at work where i wouldnt be able to use the phone anyway

(i mostly love fancy tech... but when it comes to phones im a dinosaur)

Hey, I didn’t get one until I found a need in my workflow and life. Don’t get anything that expensive just because everyone else is. Get it when you perceive an unmet need or want in your lifestyle.

Phones are better at point and shoot than DSLRs, mostly just due to not having to carry a DSLR around for an un-planned photo.

For virtually anything else a DSLR, or even a quality point and shoot, are going to be better. Many of the photos I’ve taken with a DSLR would not have been possible with a phone camera, either due to lack of zoom, bad low-light performance, fast-motion issues, etc.

I’ll freely admit the uses for dedicated cameras are dropping, and the day will come when the smartphone fully overtakes even the most hardcore DSLR, but that day is still a long way off and dedicated cameras still have a ton of use.
