I always tend to look at these with a bit of a grain of salt. There is no glorious thing about being a drug dealer, let alone being the head of a cartel. I know this one is about the soldiers (the buildings from the scene are in Santa Fe next to the new park by the way) but then again, what glory is behind them too? I don’t like that people are glorifying it, perhaps a bit like the mafia was glorified in New York.

The drugwars in Mexico served to glorify drug dealers in the media, showing stories of them going to restaurants and paying for everyone, people being proud of being the hometown of a famous one, and even showing every car or house they accumulated. I think that its a pathetic line of work for fools with nothing in their brains but lust for money and I would never admire them let alone respect them enough to give them a tv show.

But I think that some empathy should be had too, like removing the minimum sentencing that go to the people that aren’t violent offenders and had little choice. I think Obama did right in letting some non-violent offenders off the hook. I think its something that could be done here but only to the non-violent unaffiliated to a cartel. Perhaps another issue everyone here ignores or cheers on is torture, our army and navy has done horrible things to fellow Mexicans by torturing suspects and it is insane, a law was just approved that would give them the ability to have police-like roles and it is horrible flawed and makes local police forces almost irrelevant. If one wants to make a show about drug dealers in Mexico and make it accurate it would be a very dark dramatic show and perhaps even wouldn’t be aired.

Who was glorified in Secario? It was pretty fucking dark and dramatic. The film starts out in a house with corpse insulation in Arizona and ends with a a kids futbol match bein interrupted by machine gun fire. It wasn’t The Godfather.

The police? the DEA? The army?

Armies should be protecting countries from foreign threats... this issue should be a police problem and it should’ve been solved intelligently, not violently.

I am hyped. I hope it’s as good as the first Sicario.

No one was glorified in Sicario. Have you watched the movie?

In my perspective it glorified the FBI a bit, but it does argue in a sense that the drug wars are horrible.

I understand I caused a flame war but I just have a personal bit here.... One of my friends once defended Pablo Escobar because of how narcos changed his perspective.

It sounds like you’re confusing Sicario for a different movie. The main characters aren’t even DEA, they’re FBI and they’re mostly represented as being monsters.

The underlying theme of the film is that the problem won’t be solved through militarization.
