I’ve ridden in a Russian made car, but I’ve never driven one, I would like to drive one to see what it’s like.

Very, very heavy by my mum’s accounts. As you would expect from a car without power assisted anything.

My grandparents had a Lada 1500 which they bought new, drove sparingly, and kept garaged in a country where garages are rare in the city — and almost never offered to Soviet relics like that car. It had sheepskin seat covers and the fabric was pristine. I’m convinced it was the cleanest working Lada in existence.

My first driving experience was probably in that Lada, trying to roll it forward on the clutch in some field out in the country with my uncle.

Sadly, they sold it on an impulse a few years ago. I had been planning to ship it back to Australia and keep it. They regret that decision too.
