I guess I usually watch Netflix, which seems to stream just fine. I just started watching the second season of the grand tour and it looks like it was filmed on an early 2000s flip phone. Help? Is there anything I can do to fix anything?

Watching on the prime app on a relatively new iPad, but maybe that’s a poor choice. Also I’m the only one using the internet here and I’m like ten feet from the router. Maybe 15. You can’t get further than 30. So...

Run a network speed test? Amazon usually starts off the stream at very low resolution and then slowly bumps it up to what your network can provide. If you skip around the video it might have the same effect if it hasn’t loaded that part yet.

I don’t know how the iOS app is setup, but on my Android app you need to go into settings and make sure to check the option to use highest quality when on wi-fi.

Otherwise, I’ve had apps start the video in lower quality but then they switch to HD when they’ve buffered enough.

Well, the internet sucks, but some parts of the show are clearing up. Ah well.

Worth checking, thanks! I watch on the Xbox 99% of the time, but I’ve been cooped up in my bedroom with two injured pets for a week and I’m losing it. Just installed the app. Thanks for the info!

Check the res setting and then maybe just pause it for a while. You can always try shutting down some background programs too.

As for the Netflix/Amazon difference, I’m convinced Amazon doesn’t stream quite as efficiently, thus on slower WiFis is lowers quality a lot. Not sure if that’s true or not though

Makes total sense. Internet in Denver pretty much sucks in general and mine is probably slower than average here. Amazon is pretty awful on a regular basis.

Sounds like there might not be much bandwidth available and it’s compensating by lowering the resolution. Maybe something on your network is updating/downloading stuff

How long did you give it? I’ve noticed that when I use the iPad/iPhone app the first 1-3 minutes can be really low quality and then something clicks and it gets better. I’ve been able to avoid it somewhat by starting, hitting pause, and coming back a few minutes later. I haven’t had the same issues with the Roku app and it looks redicilously amazing on my TV in HDR even on my 20 MBps connection.

I paused it long enough to go refill my beer...maybe I should’ve made some popcorn while I was downstairs too. I’ll do that next time!

Hopefully you can get it going well somehow. This season has been pretty damn good through 3 episodes.
