My realtor just had his 2006 S-class rear-ended. Needs a new bumper and half an exhaust system (snapped it off).

The car is totaled. I repeat: totaled.

He’s pretty pissed and the car is in limbo waiting for a decision. I’m tempted to offer him a couple thousand and just keep it as a salvage titled car until I can get it fixed, inspected and the status revised.

Irony: he’s a professional house-flipper but knows nothing about cars.

NP if it’s had the chain guides changed.

Which I highly doubtful since they’re selling it because it needs a clutch, actually requires a new flywheel too since they’re dual mass flywheels.

If you want to be pedantic remind the seller it’s just a sport. They only sold an m-sport in 2003.

Interesting and tempting, but after a few decades of BMW project cars I’m now enjoying this phenomenon that Japanese cars are allegedly known for. I think they call it ‘reliability’ and it’s a nice change from my previous experience.

Very true, and they generally make a point of saying the guides have been done. So really that immediately becomes a $4500-$5000 or so salvage titled 540i/6, which isn’t a brilliant deal. Unless you can do all of it yourself.

It has an M5 badge. I don’t think he cares much for the proper nomenclature.

Those cars are utter trash. Just unbelievably unreliable. They make my old b5 a4 look like a Toyota.

I hear you...I still DD a B5.5 4motion Passat Variant (2.8) every day and you almost have to try to kill it with neglect. It’s hard to get the car perfect, but it keeps on trucking with relatively minor stuff.

Mine was also a 2.8 and it had its share of little problems but the drivetrain held on well
