Kinja'd!!!

I’m up at my parent’s place in Albuquerque for the holiday. Have a peek at their Mazda fleet. Mom drives a 2016 Mazda 6 touring (with the sunroof and Bose package) that now has around 40k on it.

Dad drives an 05 Miata that recently hit 57k. He’s had it for four or five years now, and he only drives it about 4 or 5k a year. This is Miata number four between the two of us, with him having previously had a 93 black and tan leather package car, a 95 R package and now this 05. I owned a 99 for a couple of years. At some point he may get bored of driving this car. It would be a good starting point for an SCCA ITS or Spec Miata racecar to retire my Integra at some point down the road.

Their fleet is rounded out by ye olde Escalade. If it looks familiar, that is because I used to own it. I bought it in January of 2010, and they bought it from me in the great car exchange of 2017. After a few years as my daily driver and many years as my tow vehicle and moving large objects vehicle, it now serves as their moving large objects/ tow vehicle. It is old, has 163k, and it leaks many fluids, but it is still a useful old tool.

Happy holidays, Oppo.

Loving the 6. I too have a 2016 6 Touring with the moonroof and Bose package. Mine is at 23k.

Theirs has been a great car. I maintain it, and I’ve driven it a fair bit on a couple vacations.

The ‘03-’05 cars are finicky for Spec Miata because the wiring layout is different than earlier NB cars. Panic Motorsports in South Carolina has an ‘03 SM that belongs to one of the shop hands and he told me they had to rewire the car. Why the rewire? They run three to four other pre-’03 NB2s at events so it’s a lot easier to diagnose, repair, and maintain them if they all share the same electrical layout.

‘05 is also a weird year because there were some parts bin shenanigans going on with the headlights. Some ‘05 cars have H7 bulbs for low-beams while most pre-’05 NB2s have 9006 bulbs.

In a scenario where I played racecar with it, I would be more likely to play in ITS. My mechanical mentor owns a SM shop, and while the class has certainly calmed down (at least in this division) since it’s mid 00's peak, they still seem to all end up doing an awful lot of bodywork. I ran for years in the IT run group, and had some tremendous races, and never traded paint with anyone. In fact, the only time my Integra has ever traded paint was playing with the spec Miata guys during an unsanctioned, informal “spec miata” winter series at the local track. It turns out an old ITA Integra runs about the same lap times as the SM guys.
