Kinja'd!!!

My brother-in-law was driving his 86 Vanagon from Fort Wayne, IN to Austin when it broke down in Arkadelphia, AR. He couldn’t find anybody who could or would try to fix it, so he had it flat-bedded to Austin and arrived last night at about 4 am (don’t ask how much that cost).

So, does anybody know of a good VW place here in Austin that could take a look at it?

I believe a certain Puffalump enthusiast could help you out. Then again, that van might be a little too modern for her.

Did it cost more than the van is worth!

Perhaps. The contents are probably worth more, so he didn’t want to leave it somewhere and try to catch a plane. He is retired, and his plan was to come south and putter around TX etc. and camp for a couple of months here and there to miss the worst of the Midwest winter.

Doubt it. The market is nuts on these things. They’re fetching anywhere from $15-28k in my AO.

Can’t offer a suggestion on a shop, sorry friend.

That said, am happy he is safe and so is the vehicle. :)

Seriously, he could have it flat bedded to Black Diamond Equipment here in SLC and get 20k for it as is in the parking lot.

There are a few going for just under $30k in Phoenix. These used to be the cheap ones!
