Yes, they certainly do!

The Subaru badge up front tells me this was almost certainly AUS delivered from the factory, so one of 249!

Hnnnnnng. I haven’t seen one in that good of shape in years. Back in high school one of my mate’s family owned a Subaru dealer and he got a lease-return SVX when he got his license. In 1999 I thought it was the coolest thing and I’ve wanted one ever since. All of the used ones that pop up here are repainted and/or dented.

They are so damn cool. Just looking at this one you could get a sense of the 90s personal luxury this would’ve offered. Reminds me of my old Z32

What other badge would it have? 249 is that it!? I’ve seen one or two others in my life, which I guess could have been imported. I had no idea they were so rare.

Thanks! I actually ran past it on a perpendicular street to the left. Just glimpsed it poking out from behind the Terios ;)

That’s what a lot of people don’t get about the 90’s Japanese GT cars these days. Yeah they are slow by today’s standards and complex and filled with tech that seems dated, and were too expensive when new but they are just so cool. They all focused on the driver to a degree nothing else short of exotics do. The SVX, MkIV Supra, Z32, Z15A GTO, and FD were all just so damn cool in a way that other cars from that period from the US and Europe just couldn’t match even if in some cases they were technically better cars.

That’s right. It was less about achieving good finance deals and hitting arbitrary numbers and ticking boxes on spreadsheets. And more about Japan’s bubble producing cars that were awesome. A bit like the glory days of American cars in the 50s/60s.

Kinja'd!!!

The Japanese market SVX (known there as the Alcyone SVX) used the above badge - all but the S4 trim used the all silver badge, while the S4 trim used the silver and gold badge.

249 is the number I see quoted all the time. That was over the 1992-1997 model years, too, not just one model year. For reference, there were 24,379 total sold world-wide. The US saw the majority of them at 14,257 sold during the 1992-1997 model years.

Oh awesome thanks. I love how each premium model back then had its own logo in Japan. Makes them feel like important standalone models. As opposed to say the Camry where they just make a new one every few years.

All the Z32s in Australia got a Nissan “hamburger” logo except 1990 which had no logo. But in Japan they had Z logos instead. Similar deal
