Kinja'd!!!

Especially when clean. 5 years on and I’m still pleased with this purchase. No desire whatsoever to replace it.

It’s a minivan. Rate this over a 2000 dodge grand caravan. Ready set go.

Dirt cheap ($17K). 52K miles and zero reliability or build quality issues. Smaller than your typical not-so-mini minivan. Loves to rev and zip around corners, especially when you can get the back end to swing out a little. The enthusiast’s choice when one needs to be practical without making it feel like you’ve given up on life. But 6MT FTMFW.

I can’t decide if this a van or a wagon. I guess sliding rear doors make it a van.

Nobody else can either, and that’s fine by me. I know CR used to categorize it with wagons instead of minivans. I think of it as a slightly longer, slightly taller Mazda3, maybe a Mazda3 wagon (like those cool tall Honda and Toyota wagons in the ‘80s), with the advantage of sliding doors - the best of both worlds.

These seem like the perfect uber vehicle.

You know, when u was unemployed a couple of years ago I wanted to try using it for just that. But despite tearing the house apart looking for them I never did find those chunks of plastic, and still I have yet to finish that project. At least the exterior is intact...

And that’s what I like about this board - we’re all enthusiasts regardless of whether our personal vehicles are humble or fancy, beaters or show cars, etc. They’re more to us than just appliances.

The 5 is such a great package. I hope Mazda brings out a new one soon. Especially now that the 3 that its based on has the fuel door on the correct side.

I call it a “nano-van”, since it’s smaller than a minivan, and still a car-based vehicle with sliding doors, like the original K-car based minivans. Though, in fairness, modern “minivans” are about full-size now.

Or if our vehicles don’t exist, and come from Hertz or Turo once in a while. Which reminds me - Turo’d an SL in March and never bothered to review it ... so meh.
