Apparently it was the Navy testing a trident missile. Haven’t seen anything like it before, looked like two stars moving across the sky, one was putting out these ring shaped pulses of light. The smoke trail stayed glowing for a good 10 minutes after it passed.
Update: apparently it was SpaceX’s Falcon 9

Are you sure it wasn’t the SpaceX Falcon 9 launch? If you’re on the west coast it was supposed to launch at 17:12...

You’ll probably never see a missile launch because they do it at about 2am, and they also shut down the coast from air and sea traffic. It’s quite cool, in my opinion.
