I also saw a billboard for it today. Seriously how out of ideas can Hollywood be? When I think of movies that deserve pre/sequels/remakes, Jumanji is no were on that list. Blade Runner, Star Wars, James Bond, sure. But do you have to go back and squeeze every single penny out of every decent title that came out in the past few decades? Just let it go out on a good note, it doesn’t need to be brought back to be milked for every last cent.

Brilliant! Maybe Oppo should do a remake of “Gone in sixty seconds” and it’ll get bonus hipster points for being an indie movie. It’s only been remade once and I’m sure everyone’s forgotten about the original by now!

Hollywood needs to realize that they haven’t run out of stories to tell yet. There are plenty of good books out there, just waiting to be given proper cinematic treatment. Hell, there’s still a lot of good Bible stories that would make for great films. They just need good actors and filmmakers to do them justice instead of turning them into some straight-to-DVD crap.

I’ve only seen parts of the original total recall, but from what I remember the remake was almost a paint by numbers copy of it. I’ve seen even less of the original robocop, so I can’t really comment on that one. But I didn’t care for the remake.
I agree if a movie has a cool premise, but the movie itself is underwhelming, than it deserves a remake. But the original Jumanji with Robin Williams was good enough. Wasn’t really good material for a series, but it stood on it’s own competently.
Or they could’ve just went the Zathoura route, and basically make a movie with the same premise, but just with a different setting.

Yeah, sometimes that “cinematic treatment” means taking a little artistic license now and then. It’s a tricky thing to get right, but when it works, it works .

It’s less to do with a lack of stories, and more because by greenlighting things that are from a known property, studio executives can just go “well, it’s a popular thing I don’t know what happened” instead of getting fired if it flops.

Actually, it’s penis jokes in this film.
I only went to see it because a friend asked me, and I thought, “well, I can just enjoy watching Karen Gillan if it’s terrible.” Actually turned out to be legitimately funny. Not amazing or anything, but it was fun.
