Kinja'd!!!

If I were given a choice to drive one for the weekend, I’d choose the Vette. If I were given the choice to own one, I’d choose the Ferrari and turn around and sell it and buy a Z06 and a Cadillac CTS-V and pocket the change. Ferrari can bite me.

Exactly my sentiment.

Also, when a car journalist says this, he immediately loses some credibility with me.

I would be delighted to own the Z06, but the 488 is just so, so much more exclusive.

I really dislike that line of logic, where one decides they would rather own the expensive one just to sell it.......it defeats the whole point of the question. So you obviously would just take the z06.

Would rather have this over both.

Right?! Exclusivity doesn’t automatically mean a better car.

Being ‘exclusive’ isn’t what I love about cars - or anything else for that matter.

OC nailed it in his original post above - sell the Italian, buy two great Americans and pocket the difference.

Amen to that! Oh and BTW, I want a 3 pedal car, too - so much for Ferrari...

The feeling of a nicer car is a good feeling. To a lot of people that’s a big deal. They’re still car people.

I want to read how a car journalist rates and reviews a car based only on how it is as a car, not for the image it projects. If it feels nicer because it has better leather, more solid controls, or something like that, okay. If he tells me it feels nicer because it’s more exclusive or costs more, then I stop listening.

One of the things that makes a better car is how reliable and cost effective it is as the machine it was designed to be. That Chevy is going to do more with less money, be more reliable, and cost less to service, all while performing just as well and being just as cool. Chevy wins.

Yeah it would be like saying the AM Cygnet is better than the Scion Iq

And to me it’s worse because it’s just more pretentious.

Years ago, the Corvette could match a lot of the numbers that a Ferrari could, but was full of rattles, squeaks, cheap interior materials, etc. - so you could see why someone would pay more for a Ferrari. They’ve closed that gap a lot though - to the point where it gets pretty hard to justify the price premium for that prancing horse, unless you are fixated on the engine note and a few other unique qualities it has.

The Corvette interior and quality is good now. I can’t compare it to a Ferrari because I haven’t been in one. One thing I do know, that wheel with all the F1 style knobs and dials turns me off.

Ferraris are a little cleaner, and probably use higher quality materials, but I haven’t sat in one either. It may be nicer, but not that much $$$ nicer.

I’m with you on the steering wheel buttons and knobs, but maybe if you’re a big F1 fan it looks cool because race car? IDK.

What, no engine-out service on the Vette?

You know what? I’d buy the automatic. Paddle shift and easier for drifting. And I grew up with manuals and drive them better than most people.

I’d probably prefer the CTS-V, but my point was arithmetic as much as it was aesthetic.

That’s totally fair, but I like that the Corvette gives you a choice.

Agreed. I drove a Z28 a month ago with a six-speed and I enjoyed it. It seemed like kind of a heavy car and needed another hundred horses to be really exciting. At 600+ HP, I think the Z06 would be adequate.

There’s a Ferrari boutique in San Francisco and there was this Ferrari jacket that I walked up to thinking that it must cost at least $300 and I was correct: it cost $638.

“adequate” - yeah, I’d say so. :) I got a chance to mash the gas and hang on in a CTS-V a few months ago, and for me at least, that was pretty breathtaking. And that’s in a heavier car.
