How do I know? I found one. I went to Carmax to do some unnecessary car shopping and test an S5 today because why not, and on my way home I stopped at a few places. Well one of the places I stopped was Chatham Parkway Lexus. Walked in the show room and was greeted by this.

If I were the type who could afford one, certainly would.

If I could afford this, I would quickly remember that Ferrari made this thing called the F40 and get one of those. Don’t get my wrong, the Lexus LFA is impressive and I can appreciate the attention to detail, but I don’t have any want for one.

If I could afford to buy it for the sound alone, I would.

But you won’t get an F40 for under $500k. For the the LFA is all about the sound it makes

With a steep driveway and no place to park it (lockable climate-controlled building with 24/7 armed security ), this isn’t even on my dream-about list.

Here’s another one - 3 miles from my house. Also, I drove this car today - and love it:

Shit, I forgot to respond to your other comment.

Didn’t matter it wasn’t manual?

No problem!

I kind of wanted to drive the auto first, to see what I thought of it. Yeah, I’d prefer a manual - but my wife doesn’t drive stick and wants me to have at least 1 automatic car that she can drive as a backup. I could live with that car in an automatic.

What surprised me is how roomy the back seat is - 3-4 inches more legroom than my GS350, so I think it would be an easy sell to my wife. V8 torque felt great, and I love the chassis, too. It’s definitely on the short list for the GS replacement.

That’s fair enough. It sounds like you actually found your GS replacement, unless you think there is something else out there?

As far as the previous comment, I thought you were actually interested in the M3.

Looks like some places have both snow an M3s. I can understand them sending performance cars to places that don’t get a lot of snow.

I have only started shopping - the SS and the Giulia are the only cars I’ve driven. I’ve got a laundry list of cars (generally new - 22 more on the list right now) to check out in the next few months.

I’m all over the map on what I’m looking for, because I currently own 3 cars, and am leaning toward getting rid of *all* of them - GS350, E46 ‘vert, and a 2005 Pathfinder. But I would only get rid of the E46 on the condition that I got something more fun to drive - 168 HP just doesn’t cut it any more.

So, an E46 M3 is a contender to replace *that* car, but it would almost have to be a convertible.

tl;dr - I have 3 cars and want to swap them all out for 2 cars: One roomy sedan that’s fun to drive and will *probably* be an automatic; One fun to drive car that can be just about anything - with a preference toward convertibles.

So driving the Giulia was for more than just fun. If I had more money and didn’t drive 30000 miles a year, I would consider leasing one. I feel like that’s a car you lease, then you aren’t stuck with a broken Italian car no one else wants to buy.

If my current situation changed, like me getting a new job, I might consider getting a new car, but there really isn’t anything out there that I like as much as my current line up.

It does sound like you’ve got some interesting options, plus car shopping can be fun, which is why I continually do it.

Yeah - my shopping isn’t *exactly* unnecessary, but I’m getting way ahead of where I need to be, and purposely casting the net a bit wider than is realistic so I can drive more fun cars.

So true on the Giulia - I’m not keen to lease again, but if I decided I just had to have the Giulia, that’s exactly what I’d do. That said, I like the SS a LOT more AND it’s less monies.

Right now, my priority is to replace the GS, and when I’m feeling frisky, I’ll dabble in looking at replacements for the E46. At some point, I’d like to drive the E90 and E46 M3s back to back.

The other nice thing about the SS (or anything used) is that it gives me more $$ to play with on the E46 replacement...

The SS would be really cool, I just don’t like how it looks like a Malibu. I also have bad taste in my mouth after my parents two early 2000s GMs.

I would love to drive an E46 and an E90 back to back. I assume you would get a drop top, so that would be an E93.

Yeah, I get that about the SS - I sort of like the fact that it blends in with the crowd, but it’s still not the prettiest car in the world.

In theory I could get an E90 M3, if I kept the E46. My convertible isn’t worth much of anything, so it’s not like I need the $ to trade. I’m still waffling on that - but yeah, the E93 is the most likely target. I’m a little put off by all that extra mass in the hardtop on that car though.

If I go that route, I will be searching for that color - seems to be fairly rare on the SS but it’s niiiiiiiiiice.

Rare color but it fantastic. If I ever have “buy a new BMW M” money, I’m getting it painted green. BMW individual may be expensive, but I it would be worth it every single time I see my car.

I’m just curious how much you’d have to spend to get this to run right after this type of long-term unuse
