Big Upgrade Time

Right now I run an EVO3 exhaust manifold, and it’s time to upgrade. I’m not wanting a tubular due to cracking issues and interference with the J pipe. So I’ve decided on the Forced Performance Race manifold with options. I’m electing to do the Tirado ceramic coating, new gaskets and all new hardware.

Appearance is very important and my EVO3 manifold is very functional, but has the rusty cast appearance going on. The FP manifold is super proven and has a nasty cool appearance. The runners are very large and mid range is a huge improvement. The ceramic coating reduces underhood temperatures a whole lot, and keeping the heat in helps with spool up a lot as well.

Hopefully it shows up in a few weeks and I can get it installed and show off a little bit. Stay tuned.

Wow non inferior generic cast iron. Where did they possibly find that? Skimming off the top of the melting pot?

In terms of uses like this, basic cast iron is definitely inferior. This manifold uses a particular metallurgy similar to what they use in their turbine housings. It lasts and works haha. I’ve seen tons of basic cast manifolds crack under repeated heat cycles.

Go coating free and get Swain tech.

I don’t want to wait though hah. The swain stuff is definitely legit, there’s zero question. The Tirado coating solution looks really nice and the guys that run it are great.

Swain tech is the only stuff I’ll run now that hpc no longer has their extreme readily available.

I just saw the price. That’s fucking great! Go for it!

Sorry, but that’s a bunch of BS. “DS5 Ni-resist” is not a technical term when referring to the grades of cast iron. Marketing wank at its finest.

If they said it was an austentic cast steel, that would be a high quality manifold. I hope it isn’t high nickel nodular, because that isn’t good with the EGTs from a petrol engine.

All I know is Forced Performance has been supplying turbos and manifolds to the DSM community for over 15 years. They date back to the days of Buschur’s 2g tube car and Shepherd being in the 9s. This manifold has been around for well over ten years and they don’t fail. Safe to say they know what works

Unfortunately options took it up to 420 shipped. But I just ordered it. I got all new gaskets, coating, hardware and all. Small price to pay for a great design that’s proven itself so much in our community. If you didn’t want coating and stuff it’s substantially cheaper. Still, it’s half the cost of a quality tubular header.

HPC was absolutely amazing. Everything I’ve heard about it anyways was stellar.

They were just about everybody’s go to for insulation about 20 (Fuck I’m old) years ago. On your blow by affecting your dipstick, have you considered an air oil catch system with something like a cobra vacuum pump actuated by a Hobbs and rpm window switch?

If you’re pushing the dipstick out, that’s a shitload of hp. Recapture that mang.

That manifold is gorgeous and works well. You can only make a wheel so round and that is everybody’s piece of pi right there.

Yeah I need to get a catch can. In order to do that I need to weld the valve cover for fittings. I need to delete the EGR and charcoal canister to have room for the can to sit. I’d also like to be able to run -10 an fittings but unfortunately clearance is an issue. Frontline Fab makes a trick valve cover that fixes this, but at $700 it’s gonna be a winter purchase haha. It was pushing the dipstick pretty good on hard pulls. DSM life.

Thanks for this LOL. I love all feedback, but calling out the credentials of someone like FP is almost blasphemy considering their achievements and track record speaks for itself. This was a good read.

Yeah I definitely love the look, it’s largely undesigned and has been around forever. They’ve simply added a very nice coating option that controls heat and keeps it looking really good.

Woah, that price. Even with the coating. Not often that you can get quality, performance, and a deal. I feel like the cast part fits the DSM aesthetic better anyway. Seems more period correct.

That’s how I feel about it too. Usually there’s a serious compromise to be made somewhere. Gotta run with it when the getting is good. Holiday sale FTW.
