I doubt Ford is dropping the Fusion in North America

Kinja'd!!!

Sedanacolypse or not, no car company is dumb enough to throw away 250k sales a year in the US alone

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!

Should they streamline the models and not have 6 different engine choices? Sure but that’s a whole lot different from axing it all together.

The Taurus is a lot more likely to get axed than the Fusion I think.

Ford’s already confirmed that one. The Fusion Sport was supposed to take its place as their flagship sedan in North America. The new Taurus is China-only, and they’re just building the old one here for as long as it remains profitable (meaning, as long as fleets keep buying them), and as long as they can keep it in compliance with government regulations without spending too much money.

Ford should replace the Fusion’s base 2.5L with the 2.0L from the Focus

Yeah, the new Taurus is actually pretty good looking.

Maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll bring the Fusion liftback here

That really surprises me. I mean the Fusion is a great car, but it’s tiny compared to the Taurus.

It really is. I don’t really get why they can’t just import it from China and sell it here, though if I have to guess, the amount of changes required to comply with FMVSS would probably be the reason.

No! Bad dog! Less power is never the answer.

Not by much - the Taurus’ wheelbase is only a fraction of an inch longer than the Fusion, and the Fusion doesn’t have that ridiculous center console eating up space. The one area where the Taurus has a demonstrable size advantage is in the trunk, but the Fusion’s is certainly acceptable.

It’s roof height that really makes the Taurus seem bigger tho. It’s 3 inches taller and that makes it much easier to get in and out of. Plus the roof line of the Taurus give a lot more rear headroom. The Taurus is also 3 inches wider overall.

3 inches here and there makes for a much bigger feeling car. And that monster center console on the Taurus also give a lot of storage

I thought they made about the same power.

Its also over 11 inches longer than the Fusion overall, despite the very similar wheelbase.

Wow that is a huge difference.

I don’t see why they couldn’t import them from Spain where they build the Mondeo for Europe.

Focus 2.o appears to make 160hp vs Fusions 2.5 175hp. Not sure how much a 15 hp drop would be felt but on the principle that, more is better, (up to a point), we shouldn’t volunteer to lose any of our precious HP.

Don’t tease! I’d love to have the liftback or the wagon!

The Focus and the base Fusion should just have the 1.5T. Why Ford has the 2.0, 2.5 & 1.5T that all have similar applications is silly.

oh wow cool! I thought the 2.5 was like 160-165, but I knew the 2.0 was 160

But still, even 15 hp might not be all that noticeable at speeds they will be driven at, but the fuel economy gain with the lower displacement will be a tad more noticeable.

And the people who want more can always spring for the turbo. Now if only they sold the Fusion ST and the wagon over here!

Yeah, I’m sure they’d still sell a bunch even with the import costs.

yup! They can definitely simplify 3 engines into one

But I still think there should be an NA option.
