Quick question. Are you from south america? I ask because most north americans say “umm” while the south americans I have known say “erm”. One of my professors made the latter sound instead of the former and he was a native of Peru. Just curious.

Haha...no. Born and raised in the US. I do usually say umm while speaking...but seem to use erm while writing for some reason.

I always hear my professor’s nasally “erm” when it’s written that way. When you started off with an “erm”, the rest of what you wrote came through in a nasal spanish accent. :)
