Back in October, I posted about making eggplant parmesan . Well tonight, I figured I would share with you all how I make Lasagna.

Kinja'd!!!

The first step is to gather your ingredients. Using the following recipes:

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I like to use as many different brands of crushed tomatoes, I feel like it adds more flavor that way. Once all your ingredients are assembled, the first step is to get the sausages in some water.

Kinja'd!!!

While those cook, you might as well press all the garlic you need.

Kinja'd!!!

Once you’ve got plenty of mashed garlic, it’s time to get the gravy started.

Kinja'd!!!

As soon as the water with the sausages gets cloudy, set a time for around 13 minutes. Just make sure that the water doesn’t boil.

Kinja'd!!!

While you’ve got both your gravy and sausages cooking, start assembling the meat balls.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t cry over spilled milk.

Kinja'd!!!

I don’t always use all the milk, I add it in until it feels right.

After the sausages are done, take them out and put them aside for later.

Kinja'd!!!

Since you timed it like that, back to making the meat balls.

Kinja'd!!!

Once they’re all made, put them in the pan to brown them. There is no need to fully cook them as the go in the gravy and will fully cook in there.

Kinja'd!!!

Once all of your meat is cooked, add it to the gravy.

Kinja'd!!!

While that cooks for the requisite 3.5 hours, you might as well clean up and knock out some dishes.

Kinja'd!!!

Just make sure to stir every 10-15 minutes, or so.

Kinja'd!!!

When the gravy gets close to being done, put boil a pot of water and add the lasagna noodles.

Kinja'd!!!

Don’t worry, I made the noodles fit.

Kinja'd!!!

While those cook, prepare the rest of the ingredients.

Kinja'd!!!

Once the gravy is ready, take all the meat out.

Kinja'd!!!

After everything is done cooking, get ready to assemble the lasagna.

Kinja'd!!!

Spray the bottom with Pam, the layer it with noodles, then ricotta, then gravy then mozzarella, then repeat.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Once you fill the pan, top with gravy.

Kinja'd!!!

Once it’s ready, cover it with foil and throw it in the oven for around 45 minutes at 350F.

Kinja'd!!!

While it’s in the oven, might as well put away the extra meat.

Kinja'd!!!

As well as clean up, of course.

Kinja'd!!!

Once it’s cooked, take it out of the oven. Cut yourself a piece and serve.

Kinja'd!!!

Fabulous! I’ll be there in a few minutes.

May I make a couple of comments? First, you don’t need canned tomato sauce. That recipe you have has everything it needs. Second, you actually don’t need to pre-cook the pasta. I’ve found out that using it straight out of the box makes it come out perfectly al dente. It draws all the liquid it needs from the sauce.I mean regular pasta, not the oven-ready stuff they overcharge for. Finally, you can bake the meatballs (and sausage for that matter) on a sheet if you like, and avoid the mess and need for attention that browning in a skillet takes.

Not sure the reason for the tomato sauce, probably it’s cause the way my mom has always made it. That’s interesting about the pasta. I cook it on the stove because I prefer the way it tastes.

I’ll eat it however you cook it.

This is great; thank you for sharing! I’m gonna be home for a month with very few meal plans to give to my mom, so this seems like a great suggestion. Lasagna is something we get from Stouffer’s (I’m very picky: no veggies or tomato chunks), but like I said, I’ll show this to my mom and we can try it out!

Doesn’t say on the recipe, but I add about half a cup of parmesan cheese to the gravy. I think it enhances the flavor. I also like to use expensive parmesan because I think it’s worth the extra money to get good parmesan.

You know who are bad people? People who don’t put ricotta in lasagna.

I don’t know how you can have lasagna without it!
