I would change “I learn as much as necessary”. Sounds like you are just learning “enough to get by”.

Maybe say something like this instead. “I’m always eager to gain additional knowledge that will expand my skillset, and bring value to the company as well as our clients. I enjoy opportunites to share and gather information with my peers”

In reality, this is what I want to write in my end of year reviews. It’s hard to tell if they really make any difference.

*cringe* That’s exhibit 1 as to why I made a career change/pause. I liked my job but couldn’t stand that kind of corporate horseshit. I had a hard time not cracking up during annual performance review meetings. Also every other meeting.

This was in jest but I’m going to use your answer verbatim.

I hate these reviews with the fire of 1000 suns. I was told some of the other managers (not mine) “thought I could have done more.”

I tried to find out what more, but got nothing. My manager and her manager were extremely happy with my performance, as were my coworkers, but there are so many fucking managers scurrying around the place that i can’t make them ALL happy. Therefore I “met expectations” for the year and I don’t know why I even bother.

Or how about when a manager has to rate his team on a bell curve and he’s already decided to give high marks to his pet employee so you, as the new guy, has invented negative items added to your review to balance things out. He admitted to this during my review, and said that next year I probably won’t be the new guy and therefore should get an average review next time. NO NO NO - this is not how it works!

Yeah, I left that festering cesspool not long afterwards...

I’m so glad I don’t have to do self-evaluations anymore. So painfully awkward.

Phoning it in is exactly what I’ve been doing for the last 2 years now...
