Living vaguely near large Air Force Base sometimes has its perks.Usually I just see gray painted versions of what look like normal civilian airplanes, but occasionally I’ll get to see some fighter jets or really massive cargo planes. As you can tell by the very technical names I’m using here, I’m no plane expert. But unless I’m greatly mistaken, the very noisy plane which I photographed this morning is in fact a Rockwell B-1B Lancer. Cool.

There are times I miss the AF. I remember one time playing golf on base, and they had a squadron of F117s lined up, canopies open for a photo shoot, it was pretty cool. Lots of things would fly in to Langley, so I’d get to see quite a bit of variety.

Definitely a B-1B. Good catch.

Yup, Rockwell (now Boeing) B-1B .

Those four engines put out almost 70,000 pounds of thrust dry (123,20 with afterburner), and a slightly different version powered the F-14.

I used to live somewhat near Tinker AFB. The plane I saw most often was the AWACS, but sometimes there were some more interesting planes in the sky...
