COSWORTH 2.3L CRATE ENGINE!, A COSWORTH 2.3L CRATE ENGINE!

Don’t care that a LS would be far cheaper and make more power. Anywhere from 225 to 280 naturally aspirated BHP would be glorious in the Hairdresser mobile.

great choice, personally I’d go for the Ford ecoboost 4cyl crate

Thing that would be a problem for both engines is that they have the intake/exhaust on the opposite side than stock.

Hey! there isn’t a problem that cannot be engineered out.

This guy fit a v6 into a Polo then I can fit that crate engine into my imaginary car!

I’m not trying to hit vtak and die instantly.

I’d rather have this:

An assembly kit for a BMW M12/M13 F1 engine would be a nice surprise present. These were able withstand over 5 bars of boost.

I was sitting in traffic the other day and was staring at a Jellybean Taurus and thought “ I want to twin turbo one of those fuckers.”

If Noble can twin turbo a duratec in a shed I could probably twin turbo one and fix a Taurus in a garage.

Isn’t that the engine BMW made just to do well in qualifying? Making over 1000 hp and then needing a rebuild pretty often.

I think swapping one of these into an NC Miata would be a riot

They hade even more power in their short lived qualifying trim. A new engine for every session was no problem then. The estimates were around 1400 hp during the ‘86 season. But they sometimes even raced with 900 hp settings.

There have been rumors about this since 80's. There doesn’t seem to be clear evidence if they used any used road car blocks or not but at least most of them were artificially aged. Some former engineer told this later in his career.

But in case the block was still pretty much the same as the road car block. And it’s pretty much the only F1 car since early days that shared an engine block with some production car.

The Cosworth duratec is the same setup as stock in regards to intake and exhaust location

If I went through the process of properly twin turboing it I don’t believe I would stick with stock. There are some decent Mazda manuals that hook up quite well with a duratec. It would be a massive undertaking and I would almost literally be throwing money away. Alas I have a soft spot for Tauruses.

No worries that picture is the independent throttle bodies. Otherwise there is a big plastic manifold right there. The old zetec ford motors were arranged with the exhaust in front like older hondas. I think newer cars have it in the rear for packaging etc
