So this is the original hard top, in the early days of these trucks they took the somewhat rare hardtop from the larger military trucks that were usually seen totally open cab or with a canvas top, and made them fit these. They must have designed the cabs to be the same width on purpose. I have a nice new canvas top so I don’t know if I will restore this right away. This needs some wood pieces to be made, new glass and that dent fixed. We will start with the paint, I got three gallons of the correct 1950s OD semigloss and catalyst. I think electronic ignition and maybe an electric fuel pump, I’m going on what the forum people say. My guess is the wood adapted the top around the base, we’ll see. I’ve read about insulating them as well. I don’t have the truck yet, it’s been hard to line up an enclosed trailer near xmas, but it will get here. I own it!

How are you prepping the substrate for paint? What kind of primer are you using?

To me this seems like a good application of a metal conditioner/epoxy for longevity.

Yeah the top may have a different plan than the truck. The truck is already primed and sealed. My friend owns the shop so I will ask him, but since it’s a part that will be removed and moved we should make it tough. I have to fix up the military grille that isn’t on the truck right now, maybe something tough for that too.
