And Giant is a great intro track. I haven’t picked up the latest Matthew Good album, but even his less-great albums have always had a few solid hits on them. Anyone else a fan?

I was underwhelmed by Lights of Endangered Species as an album, but otherwise, I can’t get enough.
Beautiful Midnight has so many fantastic tracks. But as long as we’re talking killer opening tracks, “Pledge of Allegiance” off Avalanche and “Last Parade” from Vancouver deserve mention, as well.
I don’t even know how to convey this, because I want to talk about all of it. And seeing his band play in person was worth hours of driving to the show—he’s good live, but the drummer was playing within an inch of his life, too.

Really? I think Lights of Endangered Species is one of his best albums. “Zero Orchestra” and “Non-Populus” especially. I honestly find Chaotic Neutral to be my least favourite album of his. In any case, his music got me through university, and for that I’ll always be thankful.
“Champions of Nothing” is also an excellent opening song.
I’ve never seen him live, but if he’s somewhat close on his next tour, I’ll make the trip to see him.

I think it’s that Lights (to me) was an album filled to the brim with a melancholy, slow tone to its songs. I really wanted something more infectious/punchy; something like “I’m a Window” or “Via Dolorosa” to break that album up. Maybe I’m just being too picky—”In a Place of Lesser Men” was in the right direction, but it didn’t quite grab me.
But yeah, I came across his work back in 2000, and I’ve picked up everything since. Glad to hear from a fellow fan. I’d put Matt Good and Ani DiFranco at the top of my list of favorite musicians, both strike me as amazing artists in terms of lyrics.
