I’m buying a phone from a North American Company through a North American retailer, shipped from within North America and somehow it got stuck in customs? What the fuck NAFTA? I thought you were meant to help consumers too!
Update:
I am still not getting it today, it cleared customs until 3 in the afternoon. So I’ll be expecting it tomorrow by 8PM again.
Give me a few hours with it for a review though...

I discovered it doesn’t always work if its a banned product. I once was waiting on a bearing from Canada that was blocked at customs because “its a bearing”. It could be sold at that time as part of an assembly but not as a component. Not sure if that changed but there is a list of forbidden goods.

I don’t think NAFTA even applies for something under $1,000 US.
besides, NAFTA eliminated most tariffs, but that doesn’t mean customs can’t pull a package and inspect it to verify what it is.
also (as a bit of general info) it doesn’t matter where the company’s HQ is or where it was shipped to you from. What matters is where the good was made (the Country of Origin.) If it’s a mobile phone you can pretty much safely bet the CoO is China.

doesn’t matter; the Country of Origin is what matters. adn the CoO is usually where the thing was actually made, not where the company is HQed. so China is likely what customs considers the CoO.
yes, I’ve done international shipping. you’ve got to get this stuff right or they’ll sit on a package for a while before bouncing it back to you.

I ship to Canada quite a bit and it’s seemingly entirely random that they decide from time to time to be difficult about a shipment.

I just can’t stand it! I don’t want to buy a carrier phone on a two year lease where they’d charge me about 10-20% more of what the phone is actually worth to buy! I just hate this sort of unorganized bullshit that happens every time I try to ship from the US!

We just agreed on extending NAFTA to include Telecomm, which would be great! It means that you guys (specially in the south of the US) could buy coverage from Mexican companies that MUST follow net neutrality!

I do love California! I know CARB and CAFE is a pain in the ass, but I love the fact that a single state can sway the ways of an entire nation!

I don’t think fees/duty apply until it reaches the recipient’s country. it wouldn’t trigger customs fees in Belize because the item isn’t staying there.
when I was working for a company which did a lot of product/tech demos and had to have lots of products/prototypes shipped here from Japan, they would be shipped under a “carnet” which is like a temporary “passport” for goods. as long as the things were shipped back to Japan within 90 days, no tax or duty would be assessed.
