Not worth it. Get something more comfortable

Yep. If you think of it as an upgraded version of your typical Subaru cvt-equipped car, you can fool yourself into enjoying it. But like residentLexusGuy said, as soon as you start looking at the autobox wrx lots of better options become available

Side - I’m probably going to end up with a WRX but for the price there is nothing comparable that is also manual

Why?...why would anyone do that to themselves?...or to that poor car?

If you can live with an Automatic there are much better options out there. WRX’s are great for a car with a Manual and AWD.

A WRX with an Automatic isn’t a WRX.

We have a CVT Outback. I wouldn’t want that trans in my WRX.

I drove a CVT Maxima last week. Subaru could learn a lot from Nissan.

My subie sales guy has one - new 2018 “deluxe” with the CVT, bigger wheels, etc, in silver. He keeps it in manual mode and paddle shifts it, but it’s no DSG. I can’t say I’d ever get one with the CVT - AestheticsInMotion is correct, there are probably better options. The WRX is very mechanical feeling and if you don’t like that sort of thing, (which is fine, no judgement either way,) then you would probably honestly enjoy something else better. One other odd bit - you are forced into getting an electronic parking brake if you opt for the CVT in the WRX as well.

Funny to hear that since normally everyone says that Nissan’s cvt suck.

I have a 2014 pathfinder and and find my cvt better than any automatic that I ever drove. Still prefer manuals.

I believe that’s only if you opt for EyeSight, but I could be wrong.

You mean the other way around. Nissan’s CVT unit’s beyond atrocious to the point that it shouldn’t exist.

I test drove one when they came out, it was better than I expected but really there is no good reason to get one. Learn to drive stick and buy the manual, the clutch is much lighter than past WRX’s and the car is neutered with the CVT.

You should just get a cruiser if you don’t want the stick (CPO BMW or Merc or Audi).

I was really surprised at how nice it is. Perhaps they got things worked out for the 2017 year model.

No, but I test drove a Forester XT with the CVT and hated it. The CX-5 we got instead is more fun to drive, despite being down 65 hp.

Yes.

Subaru’s CVTs suck.

So do Honda’s and Nissan’s, and probably some other brands I’m forgetting.

Mitsubishi’s are OK.

Ford’s, Toyota’s, and Suzuki’s are pretty good. More than tolerable, in fact.

I think they used to, but Nissan was basically the first mainstream automaker to adopt the CVT. My wife’s old 2012 Rogue had a CVT and it was garbage to drive. When it was totalled, we considered the Murano and found the CVT to actually be quite pleasant there.

My wife has a 2015 Impreza with CVT. Works well. Not sure how’s it would be behind the turbo motor. I got a buddy with a new WRX. I will ask if his has it.
