Yesterday I saw a rare GMT800 truck. This Thursday there will be a Quadrasteer Duraburban in the shop for a leather repair. Last week I saw a rare variant of what was once a common Toyota Cressida. Today’s NCOCP reminded me of the magic stoplight I saw this spring. I’ve even driven a GMT900 Tahoe hybrid (from the parking lot into the shop to get some headrest DVDs installed)

In the comments thread from yesterday, I mentioned that

I’ve seen an “angry-eye” Silverado Hybrid in person, too. However, it was a GM demo vehicle when I was working at the On*Star call center so I don’t know that counts as “in the wild.”

So, does anyone want to snap a photo of a real, genuine, 04-07 Silverado/Sierra Hybrid?

I’ll give...

The satisfaction of finding something rare and not terribly special.

There’s actually one of these in my town!! I have never been able to get a good picture, but I see it every six months and it’s always so exciting. Next on the spotted list is a Durango/Aspen hybrid. I think the only made 7-800 of them, ever?

I see a few Tahoe Hybrids around but I’ve never seen the pickup version.

Do dealership lots count?

There is one of those hybrid suburbans in Marin, I don’t see it very often. I always figured it was someone who refused to go German or Japanese. Does the hybrid system help a lot with those?

I have actually seen one in person back in 06/07 when I worked at a dealer. It didn’t have any of the giant stickers like the later SUVs. I think they’re almost entirely camouflaged other than a little badge behind the rear doors. The battery pack was under the rear seat and not very big. They must have been some kind of public beta test vehicle. Almost no fuel economy gains but perhaps a way to test the market and test the design?

Well, with the stop-and-go traffic in California, running the engine less frequently or just reducing its workload should help.

I just wonder how much it weighs over the stock truck.

Back when I worked at a dealership, we did have a used one of those Silverado Hybrids on the used lot. I think I drove it a couple times. They were only sold in limited markets, so to have one up here made it unusual. I don’t think it got much interest, so that was the only one we had.

As far as Tahoe Hybrids, we did have a few of those. Someone was convinced that they shouldn’t sit on the lot for extended periods without being driven, so some of us immature people were given the task or giving them a few mile exercise. I only got to go with one time. I do remember racing each other, and my favorite stupid thing, we did a flying v. Two lane road, and the leader was in the front on the dotted lines. Also... er, possibly above the speed limit.

Pro-tip of the day? Don’t leave your hybrid batteries sitting unexercised.
