“The LS 500’s electronics are also baffling. The infotainment system remains the bane of the brand. Cluttered, unintuitive, difficult to navigate, and operated via a wonky touchpad on the center console, it is by far the worst user interface in the auto industry. We are this close to declaring it downright dangerous to operate while the car is in motion. We recommend caution and a clear, straight road when using it.”

They are, of course, completely correct. My Mom’s ES300h has the computer mouse infotainment system, and it is truly abysmal.

I’m honestly surprised MotorTrend didn’t disqualify the ES500 from this comparison. It’s that bad.

Thats funny I was reading that comparison test this morning and whole heartedly agree with them. Having used the interface myself its pointless. The system in the CT6 is better but still, trackpads as a whole in cars should die.

I’m surprised there was no CT6 in this comparison.

that a current car would have a “mouse” and not a touch interface is inexcusable

I like the Continental, but S-Class competitor? Weird.

MB may not be perfect, but it has nothing to fear in this segment right now.

Or S-Class. Especially considering the whole point of the review was to find the best S-Class competitor.

I have a 2015 GS 350, can confirm that Lexus has horrific user interfaces (mouse or touchpad, both suck ass).

Even more inexcusable considering the Prius uses the exact same user interface but with a touchscreen.

The Lexus infotainment system is the equivalent of the Acura beak. No matter what they are told they remain stubborn and steadfast.

Mazda wins on the infotainment interface front. I also like my old Infiniti, though it could use more resolution/speed/screen real estate.

It did state that the premise was: what if you want something different AND you can’t stand the idea of spending $100k on a depreciating asset? Finally, an article that gets me.

I forgot my Mazda’s screen is a touch screen. I use the steeering wheel controls 90+% of the time. The knobs the rest. Super easy but a little slow

Will we be going from unintended acceleration lawsuits to unintended entertainment lawsuits? A system described as being that bad shouldn’t be legal to use while in motion.

I mainly use steering wheel controls as well. They are the saving grace in my wife’s old MKX; Ford MyTouch would have been unusable otherwise.

That’s a weird premise, lots of cheaper ways to do it.

They are on point though, the Lexus ICE interface is hot garbage. I remember test driving an IS, and it just wasn’t right - the car shared the same low-res Playskool display with a Prius, which was all the better.
