Is having an unsecured doggo illegal in your neck of the woods? From this article , it sounds like in the US only Hawaii has a law, though sounds like NJ has some enforcement too (other states have restrictions on dogs in pickup beds).

That is definitely safer, I’ve had them fly into the footwell under hard breaking, and my dad lost one out the window once (the dog was fine). From what I’ve read, some restraints can be dangerous to the dog though, the recommendation seems to be to keep them in a secured carrier (obviously easier with small dogs). I still let mine roam, which may be unwise (I’d never let a kid (or an adult for that matter) ride in my car without a belt), but I don’t want to deny them the pleasure of being able to look out, etc.

Dogs and other animals need to ve restained with a belt designed for their size/weight by law.

That’s a good way to let your dog die, also I can’t stand people who let their dog sit in their lap while driving. Riding shotgun was the most I ever let mine do. At that only the less clingy one got to do that. The corgi would try to climb over the center console so he always rode in the back.

I used to have the restraints but the dog would sit by the floor anyway
