Fuck Comcast. Debating between Sling vs PlayStation Vue. Whose cut the cable?

Alreadyhave Netflix and Prime and the only things my wife really wants is HGTV and Bravo, plus some kids stuff. Altogether likely to shave about $100-150 from the monthly bills.

In order to cut the cable, I would need to have had cable at some point.

Bought my house back in 2006, never got cable TV, can’t miss something I never had.

I cut cable about 18 months ago. I have Netflix, Prime and Hulu that I supplement with my dad’s Comcast login to access assorted channel apps. Most live sports can be watched through the Roku or Android/Chromecast app of whatever channel it’s on.

Can’t say I’m particularly familiar with the different live streaming services but I think Vue is supposed to be better than Sling. Hulu and Youtube now also have live streaming packages.

We went with DirecTV Now, but to be fair, we got in last year under the Go Big promo, which has a lot more channels than their lowest tier now. We actually ended up with more channels than we had with DirecTV satellite for $35/mo. DirecTV Now also has local channels (depending on area, but we get ABC/CBS/FOX/NBC via DirecTV now). At the time, we didn’t compare with other streaming providers, as DirecTV Now was one of the few “live tv” streamers at the time.

What somewhat worries me now is the potential of net neutrality issues as our internet is through Comcast, so...a bit of a competitor there.

I’ve never had cable. We currently have Prime, Netflix, Hulu, and PS Vue. PS Vue just dropped some local Fox stations though...some contract dispute. Sucked, since Fox is the only channel that doesn’t come in well on our antenna and I didn’t find out until I went to watch the Packer-Panther game yesterday to find it blocked. :\

Netflix, prime and Hulu. If I want, it’s cheap to add HBO or showtime to either Prime or Hulu. I’m sure there are other available channels too

I have Sling. Not bad for the price. Worst thing i can say is the guide interface is kinda crummy. Between Sling, Hulu, Prime and Netflix. I have everything I like and I’m STILL paying less than AT&T was charging for basic cable. I run all of these through a Roku which gives a remote that is simple enough for even old relatives to use.

I did it. Obviously need some form of high speed internet, I have comcast, but only because I has DSL and contract was up and comcast had the best deal

amazon prime, netflix, hulu fulfill all our desires. We have a blueray player that has apps for each, so its just one device plugged into our tv.

catching broncos games was my wife’s requirement, and a $20 digital antenna outside plugged into the distribution block for the cable/sattelite feeds all our TVs.

Zero complaints so far, ‘bout a year into this experiment.

We have AT&T Uverse. We’ve thought about cutting the TV plan entirely. The only reason we didn’t this season is we didn’t have a sure fire way for my wife to see all her college football. But, the streaming solutions for that are getting better all the time.

Im soon in the cue for dropping cable. Even going to an unbundled 70 dollar internet thing would have content be cheaper.

Sling a couple years ago was spotty at times but i hear its gotten better.

Playstation vue is pretty useable from its trial run but the price does run a little high

I did in February of this year. My contract was up with Verizon and I didn’t see the point. I had tv/internet/phone bundled with them. I dropped everything but internet.

For phone I went with Ooma. I have zero complaints about it, and don’t really notice a difference with VOIP.

For TV, we went with Sling. For about 10 days. Then I hated the interface so much I just dumped it altogether. I have an aerial where I can pick up my locals and that’s good enough for me. Only time I miss it is when a game I want to watch is on NFLN or ESPN, but that’s only been once so far this year.

Otherwise, I have a Roku hooked up to all the tv’s that we watch, and Netflix and Amazon Prime provide plenty enough entertainment for my needs. Also, some of the apps for the stations fill in the gaps (like CW, NBC, things like that).

I really want to, but we haven’t yet. We did just dump AT&T Uverse after having tons of trouble with the equipment, and went over to Spectrum. The upside is the wonderful internet speed (I don’t think I ever got better than 15mbps with Uverse) and at the moment it’s cheaper. In a year it’s still going to be cheaper, but less so.

I’d be fine with just having cable internet and then using streaming services, but she wanted to keep TV for a bit. Guess we’ll wait a year and see what happens.

We’ve never had cable television up until 2 months ago. My wife got roped into a deal for AT&T Fiber Optic with DirecTV. She kept telling me all of the things that the sales person told her, and I was very hesitant. She insisted so we bit the bullet. After the New Year, I’m cancelling the shit regardless of the cancellation fee. She doesn’t even watch TV, they never gave us the Sports packages, the price is double what they said ($135/month instead of $79.99/month), and the speeds are God awful. The shitbag DirecTV installer also disconnected my digital antenna so he wouldn’t have to drop new lines. I’m going back to my 150mb/s Cox internet that never gave us problems for $60/month.

I cut the cord over 2 years ago. I have Amazon and Netflix, youtube has a lot of content too. I’ll buy seasons of stuff I want to watch that’s current on cable networks thru iTunes. It’s usually available the day after it aired. The only thing I miss is Velocity. Other than that, I’ve found more productive things to do with the time I would of spent wasting on the couch. I pretty much watch just 30 mins a day now, while trying to fall asleep.

Netflix, Popcorn Time, Amazon Prime, over-the-air for sports. And a VPN. I seem to remember that a lot of HGTV stuff is on Hulu, but Hulu pulled a lot of its stuff back behind Hulu Plus a while back so we haven’t used it recently.

I’m in Colorado in one of the non Municipal fiber areas. I just got off the phone with Comcast yesterday and we’re paying 50 bucks under promotion for 55 Mb. Meanwhile in Longmont, for the same price they’re getting gigabit up and down. F*** Comcast.

We are with Comcast because, if you can believe it, CenturyLink’s customer support was actually as bad as Comcast’s. We kept giving them chances to not suck and they kept failing to meet our already low expectations. So we figured if we were going to have to have shity customer service we might as well have twice the speed. But the second Municipal fiber is an option we will ditch Comcast and never look back

I’ve sort of cut the cable, kind of. I’ve only had high-speed Internet for the last 5 years and record some stuff ÔTA with a TiVo, but am now using a Windows7 PC with a 4-tuner card. The cable company offered a Roku 3 at no charge, with a bunch of cable channels, without an increase in my bill (other than fees/taxes) so I jumped on it. I watch the cable stuff only on occasion, so I don’t feel like I’m wasting too much money.

The frustrating thing is the lack of channel options. They have no problem sending every channel they offer to the Roku or their apps, as evidenced by special weekends when all channels are available, but you cannot order any other packages or channels outside of these periods. I assume this is to get you hooked so that you pay for full cable TV, but I say screw that kind of manipulation . This is the kind of behavior I hate - they don’t have a lot of competition so they toy with you to spend the big bucks on the regular cable, something I refuse to do. I’m willing to give them a little more money, but it seems they want all or nothing, and my wallet votes ‘nothing’. And to be honest, I don’t think anything will change in the next three years so I’ll just have to work towards finding other solutions to get my TV fix. For the time being Netflix and YouTube seem to be filling the bill. One thing I’ve discovered is that if I use a Chromecast for YouTube ($15-20 at a local pawn shop) I don’t have to deal with commercials, and that’s worth putting up with the interface oddities.

I did it 3 or 4 years ago and never looked back. It was kinda weird at first having to choose our own entertainment instead of the TV just showing whatever was on, but it was totally worth it.

You could find a jailbroken Firestick with Kodi TV and get everything for free. I haven’t tried that yet, but with all these price increases it’s looking more and more attractive.
