Kinja'd!!!

This hemorrhaging Caravan pulled into the grocery store parking lot as I was talking to a friend. Looks like just about every drop of coolant is now on the pavement. Note that the van has temp plates on it. I wonder if he just bought it. The occupants got out, popped the hood, and then went inside the store, perhaps to buy some more coolant.

Damn. Mergio needs to sell them a newer more reliable model.

Well, that’s one way to remember where you parked.

I always feel bad for them, when I see stuff like this.

the van has temp plates on it

So he’s aware of the coolant problem, then?

That sucks. Maybe they’ll be lucky and it’ll just be a loose hose or something simple.

Especially with the temp plates. It just screams that they got hosed at a BHPH lot. Hopefully I’m wrong and there’s a warranty from the dealer that will actually pay out.

doubtful. the NS minivans are getting into their twenties now, and I’d wager a dented up one like that is still on the original hoses.

(aside: it’s amazing how long hoses last these days; in the 10 years and 170,000 miles I had my SRT-4, none of the hoses needed changing. Just inspected them every so often.)

The temp plates are the real kick in the crotch. They could have gotten hosed by a private party sale too. When I registered the RallyMetro at a currency exchange, they gave me temp plates.

It’s highly unfortunate, the financial ruin their finance terms coupled with unreliable cars can cause.

I play a game whenever I see this generation of Caravan. It’s called “Spot The Dent” and it’s almost as reliable as the Camry dent. I see this example passes the test.

My wife’s caravan just blew a hose to the heater core a couple days ago. Luckily she noticed the smell and steam when she got to her destination. Also she stopped 2 doors down from an autozone so I was able to go there grab a replacement and pop it on before she was done with her appointment. When she saw the smoke she thought she was getting a new car. Sorry honey $40.00 and were back on the road! Long live the cheap ass human hauler!

Instead of fixing the problem. they’ll come back out with more coolant and a bottle of stop leak.

I’m pretty sure the hoses in my ‘84 Town Car date to when Clinton was president (based on the previous owner having done all his own maintenance, and having stopped driving early in the Bush 43 years due to age related issues), and they seem totally fine. I’ve had the original brittle plastic T-connercter on the heater hoses fail, but the hoses themselves are perfectly good.
