Kinja'd!!!

Yesterday, the symphony brass quintet went caroling. We drove to the homes of some of the big donors and played for their Christmas parties. It’s fun, we get to eat really good food and drink wine, and it’s important for the symphony. Anyway, a local Chevy dealership loaned the symphony a totally maxed out Suburban for us to go house to house—22" chrome wheels, sunroof, leather, infotainment. I’m not sure if there’s a more expensive one out there or not, but this one was pretty expensive. Nice of them to throw in a $500 discount.

The question is, why would you buy an Escalade over that? Because you hate money?

I’m sure there are some features on the “Cadillac” that you can’t get on the ‘Burban, but still.

This thing was pretty nice. It would be great for long, cross-country drives, but I don’t think I’d want to DD one. It’s just too damned big.

I agree completely - I had one for a few years, and used it fully - the interior space and its towing capacity, both. But when I moved and was driving more than 3 miles on a flat, straight road to work, I sold it and bought the 3-series wagon. Now that we have kids, I wish I could have stashed my old one in a barn somewhere just to have for occasional use. It would be so handy to throw all the kids, dogs, bikes, and everything, right inside!

That’s what a minivan is for. When we found out we were having twins to add to our first son, I went looking for a vehicle that was big enough for them all. I didn’t want an SUV, and the thought of having the three of them shoulder-to-shoulder for 12 hours in the car was horrifying. We bought a 2003 Odyssey, which we still have (it’s on its second engine) and I absolutely love it. Practical as hell, roomy, and the VTEC is actually pretty powerful for the size of the vehicle. It’s boring, but damn if it isn’t practical.

6.2 reason

The burb only comes with a 5.3, though you can get 6.2 in a GMC

Our next vehicle is going to be a white ESV Escalade. That is what my wife wants. I told her the SS and GTO are not being sold or traded in for that beast.

The one thing I like better on the Escalade that annoys me with almost all modern cars, is that if you get the platinum level it comes with a black headliner. No two tone shit like in most new cars.

There’s a good enough reason right there, I suppose. I would imagine the quality of materials is nicer? I’m sure there are more differences now than there used to be.

Plus she has always wanted one. It is the probably slightly nicer. I hope they remove the column shifter to a console one by the time we get one.
