Mexican police is bad, very bad and corrupt. Its insane how unprepared they are, and they, more often than not, act more as a gang, or a mob made up of self serving assholes that always look out only for themselves.

Kinja'd!!!

I have said it before, I respect police officers a lot, but only when they are good and try to make my city safer.

I even respect the alcohol-check-point officers more than any other government employee. Any time that I have to go through the check points (Every car has to, I’ve never driven under the influence) I let them know that I think they make my city better and I congratulate them.

Kinja'd!!!

But again, most are dirtbags.

Now, let me tell you what happened to me.

Using your phone as you drive is a 2,500 peso infraction. I was guilty of it, I did not have a phone dock on my car and I had to check my phone’s sat nav for directions.

This until a traffic officer pulled me over, this happened in Reforma Avenue.

He checked my documents, explained the infraction to me, 2500 pesos, and three points off my license. He explained that using the phone is only permited with the car stationary and the engine turned off which is a lie, you only need to be stationary .

Anyway, he was imputing the infraction until he looked up at me and said

“Hey, guero, should I help you out?” Implying that I should, instead of paying the fine, give him 300 or 400 pesos.

I declined his offer because I didn’t want to bribe someone over a traffic ticket.

instead of handing over the fine, he fucking pulled back into the road and left.

Now, this is insane. I deserved the ticket, and he asked for a bribe and then left when I declined.

What the fuck.....

I do believe there are honest cops out there, so I always try to act as respectfully as possible.

The only time when they wanted to give me a ticket, which was because I didn’t have a front plate (Nor will I ever have one) I asked for it nicely. They insisted on me giving them a bribe and I persisted on paying the fine. They gave it to me, and I waited about 10 days so they would upload it on their DMV/Traffic webpage and it never appeared. They cop didn’t even took the effort of passing it to the system.

How bizarre. Maybe they know that if you decline and give you a ticket you can turn them in for asking for a bribe.

Curious, mind you. I’d probably toss the guy the $10 or $15 to avoid the points, but that’s because I already consider most of these laws pure garbage. Then again, having been in traffic there, I couldn’t imagine using a phone while driving anywhere I could see another car.

Also, retrospectively, I wish I would have simply paid a speeding ticket in Montana on the side of the road, but I didn’t realize how cheap and unimportant they are there, not that it was legal to pay them immediately.

I thought you didn’t need front plates in Nuevo Leon... how bizarre...

Yeah, perhaps, but I don’t know... I just feel like... its wrong...

Realistically, anywhere I’ve been in Mexico. The traffic is always kind of terrifying because rules seem to be little more than suggestions. I imagine that you’d get used to it and start driving basically by the seat of your pants (I mean, to some extent, I already do because where I live has some of the worst drivers in the US).

Also, I do think that cops up north tend to be less corrupt. They have more checks and balances because of the drug wars.

But I’m still fucking afraid of them, have you ever seen the “Fuerza Civil” from San Pedro? Its fucking scary, they look like mercenaries!

Well, I mean, in Mexico City I did not have to pass a driving test to get my license. Up in the north they do have stricter more American-like rules. But still traffic tends to be reserved to some highways and the larger cities, think Puebla,Monterrey, Mexico City, and Guadalajara, the truth is that we’ve been improving our infrastructure drastically in the last ten years and most cities are unrecognizable!

I am so happy the previous owner didn’t even drill the holes for the front plates. The mounting base is still in the trunk and it will STAY THERE.

Yeah, here in Mexico City only the Bank and Industry cops (PBI) carry big guns, say mp5s or shotguns, so I’m not used to it.

I’m a Chilango, it basically translates to liberal cuck in a safe space...

I actually bought one to mount a front plate, but I had to get it painted and was like I’ll do that eventually. Well, days turned into weeks, and weeks into months. Never had any issues, so I decided to run without front plates. I never had an issues. I now live in a rear plate only state.

I’d be like (with strong American accent) “Quieres mordida?” and when he says yes, I bite him on the hand and drive away.

I supposedly should put that front plate at least inside the car where its visible.

Is that happening anytime soon? No.

you can’t put it under the windshield, A friend of mine was stopped for doing so, she ended up zip-tying it to the grille.

why not try this?:

It is an issue, also for the federales , except that when it comes time to answer to the superiors, the federal police does have to answer!

From least corrupt to most corrupt it goes:

I could start an online course for Americans using broken Spanish as the path to success.

“Once upon a time, I was embarazado to speak Spanish out loud, but look at me now! I’m a cogido everywhere I go.”

You just reminded me of the translated films.

Whenever someone said embarrased they’d say “embarazoso”which means, embarrassed... but no one uses it! It sounds weird because the word for pregnant is quite similar, embarazada.

We say vergnozoso

“What an embarrasing mistake!”

Translated: “Que error mas embarazoso”

Actual Spanish: “Que error mas vergnozoso”

I knew about the “verguenza” forms but I never knew there was an “embarazoso” — I wonder if that’s an English influence. I can definitely see some confusion! I think the Italian vergogna ( shame) is the origin, but language is alive and obviously shifts over time, especially on different continents. Do you say aparcar   el carro or estacionar el coche , for example? I’ve always had to learn them both ways, depending on my audience (college professors from Mexico, coworkers from Spain, etc)

Kinja'd!!! "Spanfeller is a twat" (theaspiringengineer)
12/17/2017 at 22:46, STARS: 0

We mostly say estacionar.

On the issue of carro vs coche , it’s totally region dependent.

Some things are more regional, we have the well known anglicismos and the spanglish. For instance, the people up north refer to pick-up trucks as “trocas” , you can see the clear American influence there!

I was at a light and looked to see who emailed me. The cop was looking from somewhere up a hill, then came and pulled me over. I was stopped so I didn’t really think it was a big deal. I did get that treatment in Mazatlan in college, I had a beer on the street and they said it was illegal and made us pay.

I’m more a fan of “pure” language in most cases, but sometimes saying “email” is just easier than “correo electronico” when you have to say it 100 times a day. Or OTOH, when I’m making my grocery list, I usually write “fresas” to save space.

As far as “troca,” well...I’ve heard los troqueros are resonsible for most of the violence in the north. And I still don’t trust those Parcotraficantes ( We usually just call them valets).

This message has been brought to you by the need for more Espangles and less Spanglish :D
