Back when they were new Lada had a bad rep.
If you owned one then you had no taste or money, similar with Proton and Skoda.
Lada and Skoda were the butt of many jokes. Same jokes with just the car company changed such as-
‘A man walks into a car dealership and up to a salesman and says, “I’m looking for a wheel trim for a Lada/Skoda”, salesman replies, “that seems like an okay swap”.
‘Whats the best option to get for your Lada/Skoda? Heated rear windows, that way you keep your hands warm when your pushing it to the side of the road again’.
‘What do you call a Lada/Skoda with a sunroof? A skip’.

yeah they’re weren’t that reliable here, i recall they use to replace a module under the bonnet with a locally developed one.

I don’t think they were unreliable, they just had a stigma against them.
To this day there are people who turn their noses up at the name Skoda.
Many have come round to that they are better, cheaper VWs but there are still some that laugh and smirk at the idea of getting a Skoda.

Pretty crazy! My favorite truck/car with a sliding rear wall is the Polish Tarpan...no ‘convertible’ mode, but it could slide forward or back to give more bed space....

I wasn’t referring to the Felicia fun though, but the Octavia pickup - I don’t think an official one was ever offered, but some companies/individuals converted them and they looked pretty neat! :P
