Kinja'd!!!

The Clubman S or JCW: because as cool as it is, my wallet will never be large enough to deal with the issues that would come with owning one out of warranty (sorry, Mini Guy and other Mini owners).

A friend has a base, auto Cooper. 2005 I think. Lots of fun to drive, even as a base model, but good god is the build quality terrible. Also it’s always having little problems, but I couldn’t live with the interior, it feels so poorly put together. 2000s BMW maintenance costs, and the interior quality of a Cavalier. Lots of fun to drive though.

I used to have an 09 Clubman S, its a really good car. I had it for 25000 miles, bought it with 71000 miles. Stuff I had to do.

Brakes : $400 (Rotors and Pads)

3X oil changes at BMW dealer at around: $120 each

2X Oil Changes done by myself: $55 each

Winter tires Mount and balance : $65

Valve cover Gasket replacement : $32

The car threw a CELs 4 times (Brakepads , throttle sensor and the other two for low oil), Sold the car at 97000 miles, because my wife didnt want to drive a manual anymore. But if you maintain it its a really fun little car. I cruised on the highway at 80+ for 8 hrs straight, without issues. If I could buy one again. I’d do it in a heart beat..

Had one (Clubman S) for four years. It was nice. Wouldn’t want it out of warranty.

Traded it in for the Camaro. V8s solve many many perceived shortcomings.

If you dig into the models, an ‘06 CooperS JCWwith the 6-speed is not a money-pit. Iirc, their weak point is something fairly minor with the clutch. Once done, you’re good. Fluids & consumables are more than for a Camry, but the experience is WAY worth it. The supercharger gives you so much low-end that it’s tough not to hoon it every time, and the brakes are incredible too. Very high on the smiles-per-mile scale.
