Shirts, no no no and no. Jacket, meh. Pants and shoes, friggin love them! Overall, I’m happy. Only keeping the pants and shoes from this order. The fit of the shirts was not good, way too big around my stomach. The jacket fit well but made me feel like Mr. Rogers.

Total for all five items would have been $270 with the 25% discount for getting everything. But I hated the shirts so much I just couldn’t which sucks because that would have a hell of a deal. But I know I never could’ve been happy with those shirts. The jacket... I don’t know I could’ve figured out something for it.

Shoes $140 - which is by far the most I’ve ever spent on shoes but they’re really nice.

Pants $60 - screaming deal for the quality and fit.

Already placed another order, hoping to get better shirts that actually fit. I’ve left feedback on every item, so we’ll see how the service improves from here.

My first Bombfell order should be here Wednesday. They do previews, so I went back and forth with the stylist a few times getting items I would like. Pretty excited for them to actually arrive.

I have mine on hold right now. I’m finding a lot of their stuff only lasts a few washes. It’s very hit or miss.

Oh interesting. Guess I’ll cross my fingers this stuff last me a reasonable amount of time. Worst case, it’ll help me get into a more grown-up style.

If you don’t need to dress up often, you might be better served by getting a single nice shirt, and having it tailored for a perfect fit. Repeat as necessary. There should be tons of fantastic men’s tailors near you.

I like Ledbury for shirts. Some of the best fabrics available, fantastic construction and legendary button placement that makes them perfect for that “top button undone” look if you don’t feel like wearing a tie. Also an American company if that matters to you. Pricey, but they’ll send you multiples like the service you’re using so you can find the perfect size, and their team is very helpful, you’ll have you’re own stylist you can talk to without any kind of subscription. Again, about as expensive as shirting gets without going custom (or going for junk “fashion” brands), but it’s very much a “buy once cry once” thing. A solid white or pale blue is is the best start to a wardrobe. Pale pink if you’re up for it. Busy patterns, loud colors and wierd fabrics are best avoided like the plague unless you’re very confident in your personal style! Darker shirts fall somewhere in the middle.

Here are a few shirts that would form a fantastic start to a more dressed up closet. Pick one, talk to the stylish about sizing, get three of the same shirts sent your way and hopefully one will be pretty close to an ideal fit. Send the rest back, take the good shirt to a tailor and for another $30 you’ll experience what most guys never do, a perfect fit. Enjoy all the attention you’ll get from everyone haha

Dappered.com is a decent source of info if you’re trying to just get some general knowledge on the range of dress between “tee and jeans” and black tie.

I signed up for Stitchfix after reading your previous post. I’m not doing a subscription, only an as-wanted basis. My first order will be sometime after Christmas.

I’ve been considering trying one of these services. My grasp on “fashion” is about on par with ICP’s grasp on magnets, and my entire wardrobe is pretty much just graphic tees and jeans (a girl I dated called it my uniform, she was not being complimentary). I know I need to diversify and I know I need more fashionable options for things like dating and social occasions, but I’m straight up science dog on the matter

The problem is I’m very anti-brands, hate the “gotta keep up with the trends” mentality, and don’t like spending a lot of money in clothes (that could be car part money, yo). All of which I feel like is the direct opposite of how these services work. I’m worried I’d just spend way more than I want to to look/feel like I’m wearing someone else’s outfit.

You and I are 100% in the same page here, and I fully intend to keep wearing graphic tees and jeans, just need a couple nicer outfits every now and then. A lot of it’s mental, and those are barriers I can’t overcome on my own going into a store. And from what I’ve seen from these services so far, prices are on par with stores. I think. But if I’m paying a little extra for the convenience and to have someone else pick out my clothes, I’m ok with that.

Happy to help. Don’t be shy about any questions. And yeah I’ll definitely take you up on that! Just need to finish some projects first!

I wish Kinja had a remindmebot or saved post/comment function so I could use this for next year when I have to start travelling in support of our new division at work.

If your clothes have visible branding on them, you’ve already fucked up dressing yourself so badly that you might as well be naked in public (please note that sneakers and workout gear are excepted from this rule). On the other hand, finding a brand that fits you is convenient because then you can reliably order things online at your convenience when they’re on sale. Easiest way to build a wardrobe that doesn’t look like shit. Also, trends are dumb but, like, your clothes should fit and not have holes in them.

This is good advice and so is directing the sartorially challenged to Dappered.com.

Screenshots and/or extra tabs!

Unless you’re like me and have 70+ tabs open at all times and a gallery so full of screenshots it takes hours to find anything.....
