Verdict: funny, fascinating, and moving. Would recommend. You don’t have to have seen The Room to enjoy it - a friend was along who wasn’t familiar with it and laughed hard.

Obviously some scenes with take-your-eyes-off-the-screen level cringe. Of course.

I will say that having seen the room made it even more amusing.

I have a Rover question, are the trannys synchronized all the way back to the Series I?

I don’t recall the configuration on the SI transmission, but I believe it’s only synchronized on two gears as the SII trans is - unless the earliest SIs have only a three-speed, which is possible, don’t recall. The SII/IIA trans has a collared brass synchromesh assembly on third and fourth and no synchronization on first and second. With the SIII, the layshaft was changed to a single-piece cluster (previously separate gears), and changes were made to first and second to allow synchro rings... which means the SIII is fully synchronized, but the synchros on first and second feel different than third and fourth, and aren’t as good.

Among the SII/IIA transmissions are several different spacings of gear ratios, with C and D suffix gears having a lower first (and reverse), and D having, I think, a higher second than the C, which is pretty even all the way through. C-suffix boxes also have an improved transfer case intermediate shaft design...

Oh ok, thanks, yeah I was curious since my M37 3rd and 4th is synched.

With three-speed transmissions, it’s also pretty common for first to be non-synchro even if second is, because the most popular way to set up a three speed manual is with the first/reverse gear on a slider/screw on the shaft... if I’m remembering right. Which doesn’t align as well with making the gears constant-mesh, which is nearly a total prereq for synchros.
