Cheap, relatively small, have the whole range of SBC performance available to you. Get some sub frame connectors and upgrade the suspension some and I’d bet it’d be a fun drag/autoX car.

They’re popular cars for that, for good reason- and the older you go, the lighter they are, too. I personally love the ‘66-67 cars, but it seems like everyone else does, too ($$$).

With an SBC or LS and RWD, sure, why not?

Yep, thankfully the 70s one’s are pretty cheap, but no were near as good looking.

But at least there’s enough aftermarket for it you can just replace everything with speed parts! And I’d imagine you could probably swap stuff from other Chevy’s onto it for a lot less.

Pretty sure that’s a Toyota, dude.

The ‘68-72 cars aren’t outrageous, weigh quite a bit less, and look better than the ‘75-79 cars, IMHO. Plus they were even available with a big block straight from the factory (if you don’t care about weight distribution...)

They won’t be as cheap as a ‘75, though.

I think you are overrating them.

They are basically sedan versions of the Camaro. Parts from a ‘67-’69 Camaro swap to a ‘68-’74 Nova, and same with the 2nd/4th gens.

Best bet now is probably a 73-74 Nova. Not pulling earlier $$ but can access most of the first gen Camaro aftermarket.

My dad had a ‘70(?) with a built 427. It was a BEAST. If you put serious HP in it, plan on tubbing the rear wheel wells to make room for enough tire. :)

Dad’s first car was a ‘76, with a 305.

I probably wouldn’t do anything that extreme. But a 383 with a cam and the airflow and fuel stuff to support it would be nice.

Update on the Nova wagon in my parking lot.

Got flooded in Harvey, don’t know how bad, but my car was in the spot in front of it and wouldn’t start after the storm. Still here though.

Was threatened with towing because its registration is expired. Still here though (so is a Camry with expired registration that hasn’t moved since the storm, so that may not say much).

Was recently poorly washed. People can’t write on the windows anymore, though somehow, the “Happy New Year 2015" someone wrote on the hood has become visible again.
