Ah, the memories. We got Buddy Rich and his band to play a gig at my high school, and we got to open for him. Even better, we got to mingle with the band members back stage. I have Rich’s autograph around somewhere. Experience of a lifetime.

He did not. However, he was clearly irritated. Our director mentioned something about not liking being told that we couldn’t provide beer in the green room, because school. He vented by starting off his opening number at a tempo that his band could barely keep up with.
However, keep up they did, and it was impressive as heck.
