Kinja'd!!!

There’s a place in California where, once a month, cars you’d never expect to exist in a state that seems to hate the automobile appear. California’s auto elite all gather in one parking lot to share their passion and their exquisite toys.

Kinja'd!!!

Like any good car event, the real show begins outside of the parking lot. One random Malibu street got packed with some incredible, rare cars that morning.

Kinja'd!!!

It’s not just your standard exotic driver that comes out, people from all walks of the auto world congregate here.

Kinja'd!!!

One of the coolest cars there was this Audi 4000 “ Nuattro .” It wasn’t flawless by any means but it was certainly perfect. Period correct graphics and bike, plus those BBS wheels and period correct plate? Amazing.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

In my opinion, this is somehow simultaneously both the ugliest and most beautiful Lamborghini ever made. It was hard to miss as it rumbled past ....

Kinja'd!!!

...especially when this was close behind!

Kinja'd!!!

As a resident Z32 owner, I couldn’t ignore this nicely modified Z32. It looked all stock minus the 99+ JDM front bumper and 99+ rear lights.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Now, this was quite a sight. At first glance, it may look like a 991.1 GT3 but a closer look reveals this is actually anon-GT3.

Kinja'd!!!

Still amazing looking, and one perk of being a non -GT3 is...

Kinja'd!!!

...manual transmission available!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Being that this was a California event, there was no shortage of Porsches. This 993 was sitting pretty on some BBS wheels.

Kinja'd!!!

I never really liked ducktails on the 991, but I’ll make an exception for the GTS.

Kinja'd!!!

Given the awful paint quality, I somehow doubted the authenticity of this RWB car. Wetsanding goes a long way.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Life was clearly not Ruf for this 964. Clean as a whistle!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I was hella psyched to see those Hellas.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Check out those tires, this Z3M was clearly putting in work!

Kinja'd!!!

Ah yes, the famous canyon Prius. Ridiculous in the best way.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

It’s a Jeep thing, you wouldn’t understand.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Having covered the hill, I decided to venture into the actual event. It did not dissapoint .

Kinja'd!!!

There were no shortageofMontana plates. Quite a lot of farmers have vacation homes in CA, I guess!

Kinja'd!!!

E24 M6s have become quite a rare sight nowadays, so it’s always a treat to see one as clean as this.

Kinja'd!!!

One of the real heavy hitters of the show was the Ruf CTR3 (Sporting dealer plates, of course). This car has been all around the US, and I was told it was 1/1 narrowbody CTR3s made.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I keep seeing this FC RX7 around. Maybe someone can shed more light on the body kit it has. In my opinion, it makes the front end look like a Ford Probe, but not in a bad way

Kinja'd!!!

Another special car you certainly won’t see every day, a 993 RS!

Kinja'd!!!

I have no idea if it was accurate or not, but the odometer read under 500 miles.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

You can’t have a good show without there being at least 1 F40 there! This particular car is a US spec example.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

This is one of those “If you know, you know” cars

Kinja'd!!!

Real E30 M3 convertible

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

I’d like to close with this Delahaye 135 MS Chapron Vedette (Say that 3 times fast) because in my opinion, it is not just one of the most beautiful cars ever, but one of the most beautiful things.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

Thanks for sharing! Nice shots too!

I was playing a game where I could pick only one to take home (for free) and I couldn’t really decide because there were so many good ones. I’m always surprised by how good the F type looks, I really like them. That grey Fezza is also stunning. I also really like the look of that “fake” GT3.

I’m not suprrised at all of all the great cars in California, it’s been known as the “Mecca” of car cultura in the US for a long time. And by far the largest consumer of new cars of just about every segment.

I’ve spent many years living across the US and in other countries before I recently settled in San Diego, CA. I see better cars in 10 minutes of driving around town than in a whole year in many of the other States I’ve lived.

People really love their cars here, and the hard-core state policies and regs I heard about isn’t really a big deal.

Yes, they are serious about smog test, but most performance manufactures make 50 state legal stuff. There is no annual safety inspections like many other places, and nothing for motorcycles (smog or safety inspections). I’ve seen plated race cars driving down the street. Things you couldn’t get away with in other places.

Yes, gas and registration is expensive compared to other states, but insurance is about the same. If you love cars, California is a great state to be in.

Montana plates = tax dodge

To start, it’s important to explain the biggest reason why so many exotic cars have Montana license plates: Montana has no sales tax. Zero. Zip. Zilch. Nada. Walk into a DMV in California to register your new $1.5-million McLaren P1, and you’ll pay something like $120,000 ... for a license plate. [...]

On the other end of the spectrum, you have Montana. Rural, comfortable, relaxed Montana, where there’s no sales tax, and registering that very same McLaren P1 costs you something like $200 in registration fees.

I say this just so you don’t go to Montana expecting to find a plethora of supercars.

Fantastic cars and pictures, thanks for sharing.

Could it be that the old green 911 has had a heart transplant? The engine badge seems to say “3.2" which would be consistent with the displacement of a 1984>1989 Carrera.

Or it could be a “backdated” 3.2 Carrera. (Hopefully not.)

I spent a Sunday morning there a month or two back, it was overwhelming. Too much, in my opinion.
I prefer the intimacy of C&C up on Hyperion. Small, dedicated, fun.

Montana recently changed their tax law to put a tax on those vehicles, IIRC.

I figured you’d know. For a while The Stradman on youtube would talk about wanting to go supercar hunting in Montana, and I’m not sure he was joking...
