Kinja'd!!!

....everyone bitches about limited paint options on many new cars (often, a dozen shades of dark black, and silver, and seven shades of white). Think I have read a few articles on this on Jalopnik and others.

Even if a automaker offers expensive color options, they are not called out.

Have you seen the G65 AMG? Look at that Skittles factory of colors they offer, all right there on the site. Sure, $15,000 for some, but still, it makes you think about it, it lets you see them from your own home.

Why do they have it for the G65, but not the other AMGs (look at the S65 AMG, super-boring, even the GT has boring stuff)? You can (probably?) get all of these options, but they don’t even show it online. Why does the G65 get it shown, and nothing else?

Kinja'd!!!

They used to offer Tomato Red as one of the studio editions. It was probably my favorite color combo around. It looks so great with the black roof and fenders.

I think it’s because G-class buyers want to be noticed more than other M-B owners, personally. And not only is the G63 and G65 offered in crazy colors, but they *do* sell some of them, too. I regularly see a G63 in this color in my neighborhood - I keep meaning to take a picture of it. There are 1-2 other G63's in the area in wild colors, too.

According to Shmee, you can order a Mercedes in pretty much whatever color you ask if you ask your dealer. They have their own PTS like program.

I think a few other manufacturers do that even GM.

I can’t believe GM would do that.

Custom colors for many companies and even possibly for individuals for an extra charge.

We are both partially wrong. Just searched some forums and it looks like they did in the past but none now except optional colors for some companies and municipal governments. One example is Mary Kay pink which they will paint almost any vehicle if requested. In the past it seems they had the ability to paint to a custom sample but that option is no longer available.
